A Series Of Undesired Events

My cellphone has never been so busy with phone calls and messages in just a couple of days. This happened because of two consecutive emergencies occurred in my family last week, sending us scrambling with anxiety and panic.

To begin, my eldest nephew was having a bloated stomach with lots of discomfort which lasted for a few days, as well as running a fever. My sister and I rushed between a couple of hospitals to have the poor boy checked and admitted since my brother-in-law was in Tokyo having a vacation with his cousin. After some checks conducted by the doctor, my nephew is diagnosed with Influenza A H3N2 virus which is a variant of swine flu according to some information I read on the internet.

On the following day, my father suffered a stroke at home and had to be transported to the hospital in an ambulance. I have never ridden in an ambulance during an emergency in my life and that was my first. Lots of thoughts ran through my head during the ride and I felt somewhat lost along the way. Only thing I could do was to tell myself to keep calm and stay rational no matter what. Just like my nephew, my father had to be admitted to the hospital. Under detailed observations for three days, the doctor notified that the stroke was minor compared to those severe ones which may cause one to suffer paralysis or even brain-dead; and his scan results came back normal. Being the lesser of two evils, this somehow brought a little relief to the family.

Through the course of just a few days, I had to make several trips to different hospitals fulfilling my duties as an uncle and a son; as well as providing updates to the relatives.

Fortunately, both have been discharged and resting at home right now. Work has also piled up due to my absence and catching up with it is no joy at all.

Now I finally have time to catch a breather and thankfully Friday is a public holiday here in Singapore. With nothing much in mind, I spent time watching TV earlier and listening to some music now.

Writing appears to lift some weight off my chest from these events which happened. Sipping from a glass of Pinot Noir with the song "Gorecki" by Lamb playing in the background, I hope the coming days will be better.

Last but not least, I would like to thank the dedicated healthcare personnel at both hospitals who attended to my father and nephew with care.

Good night and till my next post…
