Authentic Japanese Yukimi Stone Lantern Made of Sandstone

This blog is for introducing Japanese stone lanterns and other stone items. The first stone lantern I introduce here is Yukimi stone lantern made of Kimachi sandstone. Kimachi sandstone is produced in Shimane Prefecture, located in Chugoku area of Japan.

This stone lantern is quite small so that it is easy to bring and move. This one is very popular among foreign tourists. Since it is light, they can bring it back to their country by air, or even they can bring back by themselves.

It is curved by a Japanese stone artisan in Shimane. Its color is very soft and mild. You could place it in your garden, or entrance. The size of its umblella is 30cm in diameter, and its height is about 39 cm. The weight is about 15 kg.

A moon shaped window is curved. This wabi-sabi styled stone lantern suits well on your garden, especially if you try to make Japanese traditional garden. Sandstone is soft, so that it easily gets moss.
