中国陶磁器の伝統技法「刻瓷」の美しさ The beauty of the traditional Chinese porcelain technique "Kokuji"

数年前、合間の時間を利用して美術館の雑用係をしていたことがある。
その際に、中国近代の工芸品に接する機会があり、陶磁器の「刻瓷(コクジ)」という工芸品に触れることがあった。
刻瓷とは陶磁器に彫刻された、中国の独特な伝統工芸品。それは焼成された滑らかで割れやすい器面に小さな木製のハンマーで高炭素鋼刃物を均等に叩き、磁器の表面に平刻や点刻、線刻でさまざまなサイズ、密度、深さのドットで絵などを描く工芸技法である。刻まれた器面には絵画的効果があるだけではなく彫刻的特徴が強く感じられる。
専門家によると金槌の叩き具合によって割れることもしばしばあるという。
写真にある彫られた図柄をみると、門外漢でも美しいと思える工芸の逸品である。

A few years ago, I used to work as a chore in a museum during my spare time.
At that time, I had the opportunity to contact with modern Chinese crafts, and I had a chance to see a craft called "Kokuji" made of porcelain.
Engraving is a unique traditional Chinese craft carved in porcelain. It evenly hits a high carbon steel blade with a small wooden hammer on the fired smooth and fragile surface, and paints on the surface of the porcelain with dots of various sizes, densities and depths in flat, stippled and line engraved. It is a craft technique to draw such things. The carved surface not only has a pictorial effect, but also has a strong sculptural character.
According to experts, it often breaks depending on how the mallet is hit. Looking at the carved pattern in the photo, it is a gem of a craft that seems to be beautiful even for outsiders.
