雲龍院は、隅々に心がほぐされるおもてなしがある Unryu-in has a relaxing hospitality in everywhere

写経を日課としている人も多いだろう。私のように思いついたときにする人などさまざまであるが、書き終えたときは不思議とスッキリする。
仏画曼荼羅アート教室では、仏画と般若心経が一体になった作品づくりをしている。生徒の皆さんは般若心経を書くことが普通になっているが、残念なことに私は写経をする機会が減っている。

Many people will make sutras a daily routine. There are various people like me who come up with it, but when I finish writing it, it's strangely refreshing.
At the Buddhist Painting Mandala Art Class, we are creating works that integrate Buddhist painting and Heart Sutra. It is common for students to write the Heart Sutra, but unfortunately I have less chance to copy sutras.

そのためか、京都に出かけた折には、たまにではあるが雲龍院を訪ねるよう心がけている。京都で写経をするのは雲龍院に決めている。それは、私のとって心地よい写経所だからである。
通常は本尊薬師如来像が祀られている本堂(龍華殿)で写経するが、最近は諸事情で歴代の天皇や皇子や皇女の尊牌が奉安されている霊明殿が多い。閉ざされた神聖な拝殿での雰囲気はなにせ最高である。

For that reason, when I go to Kyoto, I try to visit Unryu-in, albeit occasionally. l have decided to copy sutras at Unryu-in in Kyoto. That's because it's a very comfortable to copy sutras place for me.
Usually, the sutras are copied in the main hall (Ryukaden) where the statue of the Buddhist priest Nyorai is enshrined, but recently, due to various circumstances, there are many Reimeiden where the honors of successive emperors, princes and princesses are enshrined. The atmosphere in the closed sacred hall of worship is the best.

雲龍院では写経をする前にちょっとしたルールがある。それは、口から発することを清めるために丁字(ちょうじ)の木の花のつぼみを乾燥させたグローブという香辛料(漢方薬にも使う)を口に含み、さらに手を清めるために香木や漢薬などの香原料である塗香を手にすり込む。最後に心を清めるために洒水を頭にほんの少し注いでから写経に臨む。これらの所作が神聖な気持ちを高めてくれる。

At Unryu-in, there are some rules before copying sutras. It contains a spice called glove (also used for Chinese herbs), which is made by drying the flower buds of a clove tree to purify the emanating from the mouth. Rub the incense, which is the raw material for the incense, into your hand. Finally, to cleanse the mind, pour a little water on the head and then face the sutras. These actions enhance the sacred feelings.

写経が終わると書院にて庭園を見ながら抹茶と茶菓子をいただくのも珠玉である。庭園や書院、方丈を見て回るのも楽しい。
そして、雲龍院の美しいおもてなしとして、廊下の隅々に飾られている花が写経とおなじように心を解きほぐしてくれる。それがまた嬉しい。

After copying the sutras, it is a gem to have matcha and sweets while looking at the garden at the Shoin. It's fun to look around the garden, the Shoin, and Hojo. And, as a beautiful hospitality of Unryu-in, the flowers displayed in every corner of the corridor unravel the heart like a sutra copy. I'm happy again.
