【和訳】”St. Elmo’s Fire（ Man in Motion）” by John Parr（セント・エルモス・ファイアー；1985年）

David Foster が先日来日しました。
David Foster は、1985年の映画「セント・エルモス・ファイアー」をプロデュースし、そのテーマ曲("Love Theme from St. Elmo's Fire")も書いています。

この映画には、もう一つの主題曲があります。John Parrが書いた、
”St. Elmo’s Fire（ Man in Motion）” 。この曲はシングルカットされて全米ビルボード１位にもなっています。

映画のことを言えば、女優のデミ・ムーア（上段中央）は、この映画で認知度を上げて、1990年の「ゴースト」へとつないでいきます。
また先日、MLBドジャーズの大谷翔平選手と2ショット写真がネットニュースに掲載されていて「懐かしいな」と思ったその人は、やはりこの映画で人気を確かなものにしたロブ・ロウ（上段右）。
そんな男女７人が共演したのが、1985年の青春群像映画「セント・エルモス・ファイアー」。

さて、主題曲の ”St. Elmo’s Fire（ Man in Motion）” について

実はこの曲は、元々はこの映画のためではなく、カナダ人Rich Hansen (リック・ヘンセン)さんのために作られた曲です。
ヘンセンさんは15歳の時に事故で脊髄損傷という障碍を負い、以来車椅子の生活になりました。1980年と1984年のパラリンピックでは金メダルを含む６個のメダルを獲得しています。現在のようにはオリンピックと同時開催されず、パラリンピックが認知も注目もされなかった時代。
障碍者のことをみんなによく知ってもらおうと、1985年27歳の時に、車椅子で世界一周のツアーを敢行しました。“Man in Motion Tour”と呼ばれ、歌詞の一部にもなっています。
ヘンセンさんらの努力もあって、2000年シドニー五輪からはオリンピックとの同時開催が義務化されました。
今年は、パラリンピック開催年（パリ）でもあります。
