金砂郷赤土町(のちの常陸太田市)の在来種をベースに作られた茨城県独自のブランド蕎麦｢常陸秋そば｣。その開発に協力した、そば屋を営む青年の元に、ある日一人の美しい女性が訪ねてくる。露子と名乗るその女性は、店の従業員として泊まり込みで働かせてほしいという。訝しんだ青年だったが彼女が毎夜歌いながら打つ蕎麦は非常に評判がよく、たちまち店は大繁盛となった。露子は蕎麦を打つ姿を決して見せなかったが青年はさして気にせず、やがて二人は夫婦となり、力を合わせて店を切り盛りし、子供にも恵まれた。
しかし幸せな日々は永遠には続かなかった。ある日の深夜、店に泥棒が入り、家族を守ろうとした青年は露子の蕎麦を打つ姿を見てしまう。彼女の正体は赤土町の蕎麦の精であり、歴史の波に埋もれるところをブランドそばとして蘇らせてくれた恩返しに来たのだ。
｢正体を知られてしまった以上、一緒に暮らす事はできません。しかしわたしの心は、いつまでもあなたと子供たちのおそばにおります。どうかお元気で…｣
蕎麦の精ツルンの正体を現した露子は哀しげに一声鳴くと、満開の蕎麦の花畑に消えていった。

Ibaraki Prefecture's original brand soba "Hitachi Aki Soba" made based on the native species of Akatsuchi-city Kanasago (later Hitachiota City). One day, a beautiful woman visits a young man who runs a soba shop who cooperated in the development. She wants the woman, who calls herself Tsuyuko, to work overnight as an employee of her store. She was a suspicious young man, but the soba noodles she sang and struck every night were very well received, and the store quickly became very prosperous. Tsuyuko never showed herself making soba, but her young man didn't care much, and eventually the two became a married couple, joined forces to run the store, and were blessed with children.
But happy days did not last forever. One day at midnight, a thief enters the store and a young man trying to protect her family sees him making the soba of tsuyuko. Her true identity is the soba spirit of Akatsuchi city, and she came to give back the place buried in the waves of history as a brand soba.
"I can't live with you as long as I know what I am. But my heart is always with you and my children. Please be fine ..."
Sadly screamed and disappeared into the soba flower field in full bloom.
