意味：
予期せず。いきなり。前ぶれもなく突然。青天の霹靂。
Unexpectedly.  By surprise.  From nowhere.

例：
Out of the blue, he moved to a foreign country.
彼は突然、外国へ引っ越した。

She visited me out of the blue.
彼女はなんの前ぶれもなく訪ねてきた。

I didn't know he was seriously dating a girl.  Out of the blue, he told me he was getting married.  I was surprised.
彼に真剣に付き合ってる子がいるとは知らなかった。いきなり彼は結婚するんだ、と言ったので私は驚いた。

「out of the blue」の直訳は「青から出る」になります。
それがなぜ”突然”や”いきなり”という意味になるのか疑問に思うかもしれません。
日本語の”青天の霹靂”と思うと似た言葉になるでしょう。

「blue」の青は、”青天”の青のことで、青空の中から突然カミナリが出てくるように、「”青い空”から突然出てくる」＝「out of the blue」になるかたちです。
