This article was released last year. It's a little bit old interview but I think this is one of the most valuable interview to know Heize.

This interview was done by students in Pukyong University, where Heize was studying. Surprisingly, the student mentions in the blog that Heize is still currently underway in this University(As of Nov.2016). So we can say she did not graduate and was a student at the time of last year. (I additionally wrote my hypothesis in the last of this article)

Sunbaenim(The way of calling senior), please introduce yourself.

Hello! I entered Pukyong University in 2010 and am majoring Business Administration. I am Jang Da-Heize. Please feel free to call me Ancestor^^(Person who stays university for a long time and got old.)

How did you achieve your dream of rapper while going to school?

I often wrote lyrics and made songs as a hobby since I was a high school student, but I thought the occupation ’Singer’ existed in a different world and never thought I would be a singer.
So I didn’t try to aim the dream of becoming a singer while going to school. I can say that I was suppressing my dream at that time.
But there was a chance to bring out the dream which I had hidden in depth of my mind!

I read the interview that you really studied hard to persuade your father because you wanted to be a rapper!
You got the grade rating 4.5(maximum rate, all A+) and it was revealed on MBC's TV program’I Live Alone '.
Is there a special way of studying to be the first place in your major?

I had never studied hard until that time, and I did not know how to study. I was just fightng with a book frantically.
I listened lectures really hard, and I wrote down eagerly, and I organized my notes to make them easy to understand.
I think It’s important to find your own way to look up notes comfortably.
I always folded up A4 paper and wrote Chapters and titles on the top of left part.
And I sorted out keywords of each chapters. Then, it will be five pages per subjects.
One week before exams, I summarized those papers and I only saw them on the exam day.
Oh, and I had stayed up all nights from a week before the exam.
If you keep using all your energy everyday, you can’t concentrate on studying and eventually you lose your tension.
So I usually just concentrated on listening to lectures and tried to go all out before the exams.
I don't know if it's a good way or not.
But I got 4.5 points in two semesters by this way. Hahahahaggsgrgsrhjakddgsg(←This is not my mistyping, her laughing lol)
And I lost my health................

What do you think you're doing now if you couldn’t become a rapper?

My favorite thing is music.
It was clear, but I didn’t know if it's possible for me to do and what I was eager to do.
I went to school just because everyone goes to school. I guess I would finding a job and work at somewhere because people unconsciously think they have to get a job once you graduate.
I was a student like who didn’t know what I wanted to do until I found a dream.
So maybe I would just choose a job fitting with conditions, I can’t imagine what kind of job I would choose except a singer.

Please give advices for students who give up their dreams because of their steady jobs and parental expectation!

“Can I try while my parents are against my dream?” “Can I do well if I try?” “What if I failed?” “What should I do If something happens..” “I think I can’t because of blah blah..”
If you're spending a lot of time worrying about a bunch of questions and anxieties, it might be cruel for you but I'd like to say “Just Don't do it. "
If you have conviction that you don’t wanna do anything except your dream and you are eager to do, you would make efforts to find way to make your dreams come true while you just spend time to worry. And most importantly, don't find excuses under any circumstances.

Since I decided to be a singer, I had to convince my father to get permission to take a year off from school. The only way I could persuade him was to be at the top of my major so I devoted myself to study.

After I managed to be first place in my major, I moved to Seoul alone. I had been so much hardworking for part-time jobs to make money because I was against to my parents and came to Seoul so I didn’t want to depend on them. I did three part time jobs in a day while preparing for music activities at the same time. My mind and physics were literally covered by bruises.

I never wanted to show weaknesses. I decided to be responsible for my choice…I just wanted to show it by results.

One might think it's stupid, but I’m sure I could come here as I had kept running desperately only looking forward like crazy to make a dream come true. So I have no regrets over the past few years.

What I really want to say is, if you have conviction and belief, don’t limit your challenges, go for it.
I hope you to try your best not to regret.

You can have conviction in your mind even if others can’t see.
Whether you did best or blew off and skived…
I am sure that if you are confident of your action and yourself and try to make efforts, you will have good results.

Do you have the most memorable professor?

There are many great professors, especially Prof.Kim Duk-hyeon, Prof.Kim Chang-hwan,Prof.Seong Duk-hyeon.
I always feel much more thankful for those three who have always supported my dreams.

I wrote that there was an opportunity to bring my dream out.
Exactly It was happened during a statics class by Prof.Seong Duk-hyeon, whom now I call " Father."

I always sat in the back seat, listened to a lecture, sometimes not, spaced out or wrote lyrics alone.
On the day of the accident! The professor found me writing lyrics during the class. He told me to come to his lab after the lecture. My friends and I were totally freaking out and we thought it’s emergency. One of my friend said
"Hey, you're over..You're gonna be kicked out soon…. "

And I went to the lab with my mind prepared for giving my life, however, the professor laughed and asked me,
" What were you doing at that time?“
I said “I was writing lyrics”
and he asked me again.
”Is that what you want to do now? "
Until then I didn’t know what I wanna do and be, so I answered vaguely like
“It’s just my hobby. I feel happy when I make songs and sing them by myself… "
At that time, the professor gave me a smile like Buddha.
"Then do it. It’s possible to go to school whenever you want to learn even after you got old. But what you want to do now is hard to challenge later.”

When I heard the words, I thought I have to do this, I have to become a singer. And I came to make a decision.

Since then, Professor Seong was caring about me and always cheered me up before I took a year off, even when I moved to Seoul and was living alone and working hard for making music.

I think that Heize is all started thanks to Professor Seong Deok-hyeon.
I always appreciate, respect and love my professor.

What was the hardest part when you were going to school or you lived alone? What is the good things?

I guess it was the hardest thing to eat while I was living alone.
As a person who spent a few years with unbalanced diet, I would like to say you must have three meals in a day!
I didn’t notice at that time, but as the time passed, I had a lot of trouble with my health and stamina and I had very hard time.
On the other hand, if you live alone, you will have chance to spend time alone.
I think I could make the best use of it and it helped me to speculate.

Do you have any special memories at Pukyong University?

I think I went to school and realized the true meaning of the campus.
Especially, I like seeing the grass has a different charm every season.
Walking along the lawn and going to a class room. And the road to a schoolhouse passing the glasses. Those were pretty happinesses in my school life.
I think you pass the road every day so I hope you enjoy the scenery not just passing by.

I listened to you new album “And July” over again and again.
Could you please tell us about your next album secretly?

Ok ..This is a really unreleased fact!!
I’m going to release new song in November.
I composed the song and wrote my story directly so please listen❤hehehe

Could we have quick words for your colleague and juniors who love you so much?

To my dear colleagues and juniors in Pukyong university! I always miss you and wanna stay with you guys!
I hope you just accept and enjoy the beautiful present that will never come back.
In short, enjoy seriously and study hardly.
And I will always cheer for everyone who is chasing their dreams.

This is the last question. What is Pukyong University for you?

Since I attended Pukyong University, I could meet people like Professor Seong Deok-hyeon in an important period of my life.
Since I got a chance to realize my dream,
It is not too much to say that Pukyong University made me exist as ‘Heize’. I’m so thankful.

・Since childhood she was familiar with classical music. She learned playing the piano and cello when she was in elementary school.

・She joined orchestra club when she was in middle school.

・The first time she met HipHop was when she was in middle school. She was looking a blog of friends or someone and she heard a song set in the blog. That song was "And After That" by Free Style (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1sYgufZIi1A). She was shocked that there was HipHop like singing like ballad and she really like that style. And she came to fall in love with HipHop.

・During her life in high school, she was writing lyrics and songs as her hobby.

・She said there was no reason to choose business major, just her weaver in high school recommended to her.

・It is said that Heize was dating with local indies singer, 크리틱. He was in same major as her.

・Before the accident of Prof. Seong, she never concentrated on studying.

・After she decided to be a singer in 2012 spring, she talked to her father but he said "even you can't concentrate on studying, how can you be a singer?". Since then she tried hard to get good score in second semester and she got first permission in 2012 winter. She left her hometown and moved to Seoul in early 2013.

・First a year she went to Seoul, she has less money and no friends.
She rent a house by 300dollars in a month. To pay rent fee and make money for music works, she did part time jobs 10hours in a day. Seafood restaurant, bakery, cafe, pork feet restaurant, handing out flyers .... Sometimes she was picked up by male guests.

・She had no idea with way to release her songs at first, but she contacted some people by using Facebook and she managed to release her debut songs on Jan.2014.

・After one year in Seoul, she had to go back to school in 2014. She felt her life in Seoul was so special and happy although it was so hard to live at that time. So she concentrated on studying again. She got great scores and the first place in her major in first semester July,2014. And she got second permission to go to Seoul again.

・She moved to Seoul around summer in 2014. She released songs in January,2015 and in June,2015.

・She did some live performances in 2014 to 2015.
Her life in Seoul was still not easy to live. "Did I come here to be a singer? or just doing part time jobs?" She even thought she would study and get an ordinary job, because she promisedwith fathersh that she could stay in Seoul exactly one year so she just left less than a few month till going back to Busang. Then, she got contact from mnet through Facebook, it was suggestion of Unpretty Rapstar2.

I guess she lest ONE semester so she still could not graduate.
She went to Seoul first time when she finished junior grade.
After back to school from one year in Seoul, she might be in school only first semester (March to July,2014) and went to Seoul again after that. In the TV program " I live alone", she tried to apply for returning to school. Once she failed but she succeeded later. Actually a student saw her in the school in September,2016. But it must have been hard to go to school. So I'm not sure she could finish school or not.
To sum up, she spent three years and half in school and left one semester as of Nov,2016. (I'm not sure about now.. but maybe she has been too busy to go school and she may not want to give up graduate since she likes her professors and has a lot of memories in University....)

I'm thinking about summarizing these facts and make chronology of Heize..
