Ukrainian Government Cancels Announced Airdrop for Crypto Asset Donors
Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov announced on April 3 that the airdrop for crypto asset (virtual currency) donors that was originally scheduled to take place will be canceled. Instead, NFTs (non-substitutable tokens) will be issued to support the Ukrainian Armed Forces. As for fungible tokens (tokens that can be substituted like bitcoin or digital currency), they will not issue them.
Deputy Prime Minister Fedorov said, "After careful consideration, we have decided to cancel the airdrop. More and more people are supporting us against the invasion of Ukraine by the Russian army. We will soon announce an NFT to support the Ukrainian military instead. We have no plans to issue fungible tokens," he tweeted. The Ukrainian government tweeted on Wednesday that it would offer airdrops (free distribution of tokens) to those who donated using crypto assets. Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), and Tether (USDT) will be accepted, and then Polgadot (DOT) was added. It had also started accepting Solana (SOL) by the Solana Foundation and started accepting Dogecoin (DOGE).
