静岡県西部では10月の二週目に多くのお祭りが開催されます。その中でも、島田市の「帯祭り」というものが有名です（写真）。日本三大奇祭の一つにもなっているようで、大の男たちが剣にぶら下がった帯を振りながら無言で行脚する様子は、確かに何か異様な雰囲気もします。

Japanese festivals 日本の祭り

I would like to talk about Japanese festivals.
There are various kinds of Japanese festivals in Japan. The purpose of most festivals is wishing for a good harvest, family’s prosperity and good health. Some of festivals such as Gion festival in Kyoto focus on wording off god and goddess who bring diseases and sicknesses.
日本の祭りにはいろいろなものがありますが、ほとんどは作物の豊穣や家族の繁栄、人々の健康を願うものです。いくつかは古くに信じられていた疫病などをもたらす神などを追い払うものがあります。

There are three major festivals in Tohoku area which is north-east Japan. One is Tanabata festival in Miyagi prefecture, second is Nebuta festival in Aomori prefecture and last one is Kanto festival in Akita prefecture.
日本の夏祭りで有名なものとして、東北の三大祭りがあります。仙台の七夕、青森のねぶた、秋田の竿燈まつりです。

Each festivals has its original performance. For example, the Kanto festival in Akita prefecture, you can see the performance that people carry a pole with more than 40 lanterns and put it on the shoulders and sometimes head. If you can see the performers close up, it will be very breathtaking and interesting. But if you see from a little bit far distance, you can also feel a nostalgic atmosphere by the 180 lantern poles that represent good harvest of rice.
それぞれの祭りには特徴があります。例えば、秋田の竿燈まつりでは、たくさんの提灯がつけられた竿を、パフォーマーが方に乗せたり頭にのせたりして大道芸のようなものを見ることができます。
