ピーター・ドラッカーと渋沢栄一

　ボルドリッジから、その源流を探ろうとエドワード・デミングにあたり、そこからピーター・ドラッカーにたどり着いて、今日はさらに渋沢栄一にまでつながりました。

　ニュースでも今日11月11日が渋沢栄一の命日であると紹介されていましたが、11月11日はピーター・ドラッカーの命日でもあります。

　本日開催された経済産業ビジネススクール”時代セミナー”「二水会」の第3講座では、両氏の命日を思い、講師の横にはドラッカーと渋沢の写真が並んで飾られていました。そして、講師の高梨智弘氏からは、「ドラッカーは、日本に100年以上続く長寿企業が多いことに興味を持ち、日本の経営者たちを研究するなかで渋沢栄一に出会って、渋沢栄一の業績や思想に感銘を受けた」と紹介がありました。

　実際、ドラッカーの名著「マネジメント」（Management: Tasks, Responsibilities, Practices ）の序文（Introduction）の“Management is Professional”と題した小節で、ドラッカーは渋沢栄一について語っています。

Management is Professional
 We further know that management is independent of ownership, rank, or power. It is objective function and ought to be grounded in the responsibility for performance. It is professional—management is a function, a discipline, a task to be done; and managers are the professionals who practices this discipline, carry out the functions, and discharge these tasks. It is no longer relevant whether the manager is also an owner; if he is, it is incident to his main function, which is to be a manger. Eiichi Shibusawa’s Confucian ideal of the ‘professional manager’ in the early days of modern Japan has become reality. And so has Shibusawa’s basic insight that the essence of the manager is neither wealth nor rank, but responsibility.

・・・渋沢栄一の儒教の理想である「プロのマネージャー」は、近代日本の初期に現実のものとなりました。 そして、マネージャーの本質は、富でも階級でもなく、「責任」であるという渋沢の基本的な洞察もそうです。

　明治時代を築いた「近代日本経済の父」渋沢栄一は、Manager（経営者・管理者）の本質は『責任』にほかならないということを見抜いていたと、語っています。

　ドラッカーについては、ほかにも、ドラッカーの人文知アプローチとその後の経済学で主流となった科学知アプローチとの比較から、これからのイノベーションの時代に必要なアプローチについての考察など、検討すべき課題（学びなおすべきテーマ）がいくつか紹介されました。

　理解を深めて、この場でまた紹介したいと思います。
