神奈川県にある箱根温泉は、自然環境が豊かで多様な樹種があり、それぞれの樹木の色を活かして組み合わせ、幾何学文様をつくるのが寄木細工です。

寄木細工を使って箱や盆など様々なものがつくられています。

寄木細工のからくり箱

有馬玩具博物館の収蔵品の中に、亀井昭夫さんの「からくり箱」を収蔵しています。
亀井さんは、大阪出身で大阪大学在学中に箱根の寄木細工に魅せられて、木箱をつくり始めました。そして木箱の名前を「からくり箱」と命名しました。
亀井さんのからくり箱は、真面目に取り組まねばならない箱、真面目に取り組んだのでは開かない箱、常識の逆を考えねばならない箱、ユーモアが解らなければ開かない箱等いろいろです。

大阪大学を中退したのですが「こんな奴は卒業生にしなければだめだ！」と教授が言ったそうで、亀井さんは大阪大学の卒業証書をもらったそうです。

The Arima Toy Museum houses a collection that includes Akio Kamei's "Karakuribako" (trick box). Kamei, originally from Osaka, became captivated by Hakone parquetry during his time at Osaka University. This fascination led him to begin crafting wooden boxes, which he aptly named "Karakuribako." Kamei's trick boxes encompass a variety of themes, including boxes that demand serious contemplation, boxes that won't open through serious effort, boxes that challenge conventional wisdom, and boxes that remain closed without a sense of humor.

Although he left Osaka University without completing his degree, Kamei received his graduation certificate, as a professor reportedly said, "We can't afford not to have such an individual as an alumnus!"

からくり箱と銘打っているように箱です。箱ですから中にモノが入れられるようになっています。箱を開けるとプレゼントの引換券が入っていますので、それをフロントにお持ちになってください。

As the name suggests, it's a "Karakuribako," which translates to a trick box. Since it's a box, it's designed to hold things inside. When you open the box, you'll find a gift voucher inside. Please bring that voucher to the front desk for redemption.
