ちまき:2023年7月18日(火)

「ちまき」は「茅まき」で,日本古来の考え方で茅(かや)に特別な霊性が認められている。祇園祭では,山鉾でそれぞれに準備された「ちまき」を買い求め,家に持ち帰り,厄難消除のために門口につるす慣わしがあり,古都京都の風物詩でもある。
 芦刈山の「ちまき」は夫婦和合を祈願する。謡曲「芦刈」には3年ぶりに再開した夫婦が交わした和歌が「ちまき」の包装袋に書かれている。
左衛門 君なくて あしかりけりと思ふにも いとど難波の浦は住み憂き 
妻   あしからじ よからんとてぞ別れにし なにか難波の浦は住み憂き

Chimaki:July 18th(Tuesday)

"Chimaki" originates from "kayamaki," a traditional Japanese belief that attributes special spirituality to the grass "kaya" (miscanthus). During the Gion Festival, people buy "chimaki" prepared for each float (Yamahoko) and bring them home to hang at the entrance for the custom of dispelling misfortune. It has become a symbolic scene in the ancient capital of Kyoto.
The "chimaki" of Ashikariyama is prayed for marital harmony. The exchange of waka poems between a reunited couple, after three years of separation, from the Noh play "Ashikari," is written on the wrapping of the "chimaki":
SAEMON:
Though you are away,
I feel it deeply,
Naniwa no ura is where I live with sorrow.
WIFE:
I don't mind, for
Even if you want to leave me,
Naniwa no ura is where I live with sorrow.
