阪神・淡路大震災から28年：2023年1月17日（火）

「天災は忘れた頃にやって来る」は物理学者の寺田寅彦先生の名言の一つである。阪神・淡路大震災（1995年）から約16年後に東日本大震災（2011年）が起きた。寺田寅彦先生は随筆「地震国防」で「戦争はしたくなければしなくても済むかもしれないが，地震はよしてくれと言っても待ってくれない」とも残している。つまり，地震の防災準備は義務であるということである。

"One disaster strikes when you least expect it" is one of the famous sayings of physicist Torahiko TERADA. About 16 years after the Great Hanshin Earthquake (1995), the Great East Japan Earthquake occurred in 2011. In his essay "Earthquake Defense," Terada also wrote, "We may be able to avoid war if we don't want to fight, but earthquakes won't wait even if we ask them to spare us." In other words, disaster preparedness for earthquakes is a duty.
