京都タワー：2024年3月29日（金）

京都のランドマークの一つである京都タワーが，4月1日から向こう5年間，「ニデック京都タワー（Nidec Kyoto Tower）」との呼び名に変わる。ニデック（旧，日本電産）が京都タワーの所有者の京阪ホールディングスから5年間の命名権（ネーミングライツ）を取得したことが3月19日に公表された。

　京都タワーは，東京オリンピックが開催された1964（昭和39）年の12月に開業した。同じ年に東海道新幹線が開通した。建設当初は，パリのエッフェル塔の建設を巡る論争と同様に，古都京都に背の高い工作物が必要なのかという論争があったという。構造設計者の建築家の山田守氏も相当苦労されたという。京都タワーは，鉄骨を一切使わない特殊鋼板シリンダーを溶接で繋ぎ合わせて作ったモノコック構造であり，いまや京都になくてはならないシンボルの一つとなっている。

　京都タワーも開業60周年となり，修繕費等の新たな費用が必要となり，今回の命名権を売ることにより費用を賄うことになったという。

Kyoto Tower：March 29th (Friday)

One of Kyoto's landmarks, Kyoto Tower, will be renamed "Nidec Kyoto Tower" from April 1st for the next five years. It was announced on March 19th that Nidec (formerly, Nippon Densan) has acquired the naming rights from Keihan Holdings, the owner of Kyoto Tower, for a period of five years.

Kyoto Tower opened in December 1964 (Showa 39), when the Tokyo Olympics were held. The same year saw the opening of the Tokaido Shinkansen. Initially, there was controversy surrounding the construction of a tall structure in the ancient city of Kyoto, similar to the debate surrounding the construction of the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Architect Mamoru Yamada, the structural designer, reportedly faced significant challenges. Kyoto Tower features a monocoque structure made by welding together special steel plate cylinders without using any steel frames, and it has become one of the indispensable symbols of Kyoto.

As Kyoto Tower celebrates its 60th anniversary, new expenses such as repair costs have arisen, and it has been decided to cover these costs by selling the naming rights this time.
