“Aoba shigereru” 〜 bloom of youth

I admire the youth that the students of “Kyusei Koto Gakko” enjoyed throughout their dormitory life.

The “Kyusei Koto Gakko” was a high school under the former education system enforced before the War, and implemented the liberal arts education that is becoming popular these days. The students placed themselves in an academic environment, and developed self-discipline through their dormitory life. The dormitory songs (寮歌 “ryouka”) were born in such an environment.

The students have the image of living in strict discipline, but in the songs they wrote, I feel their thoughts of the youth being bewildered in love and struggling with the gap between their ideals and the real world.

The dorm’s life in the “Kyusei Koto Gakko” seems to have provided them with an opportunity to indulge in philosophical thinking, and talk over a drink with the dorm’s mates.

I long for such a life. Philosophical thinking is impossible for me, though…

青葉茂れる〜寮歌の世界への憧れ

父は、酔うとよく寮歌を口ずさんでいたらしい。早稲田を出た父だが、『都の西北』や『紺碧の空』ではなく、どこかの官立高校の寮歌だったようだ。そんな寮歌から、寝食を共にした学友たちのことを思い出していたのかな。結局叶うことはなかったが、引退後は出身地の長野県に戻り、旧友との再会を夢見ていたのかもしれない。

僕も、寮生活を通して旧制高校生が謳歌したような青春に憧れる。彼らの思いが詰まった寮歌が好きだ。

旧制高校は、最近の教育界で流行りの「リベラル・アーツ」を実践していた学び舎だ。学生たちが寮生活を通じて友と語り合い、多くの学びを得た所だ。そんな環境の中で寮歌が生まれた。

寮生たちは硬派のイメージながら、彼らが作った寮歌には、恋に戸惑い、理想を求めつも現実世界の蹉跌に悩む、そんな学生たちの青春の思いが込められているのだ。哲学的思考に耽り、酒を飲みながら寮友と語り合う寮生活。「酒と恋と理想には酔って然るべき」。そんな青春だ。

そんな憧れも影響したのか、高校時代（酒付き？）、大学時代、そして、駐在した海外のあちこちで、寮生たちの真似事をしたものだ。学友や同僚たちと酒を酌み交わし議論することを楽しんだのだ。その内容は、教養的なものではなかったが…。

時々、その頃のことを思い出すことがあるが、今でも胸が熱くなる。僕にとっての「寮歌の世界」は、確かにそこにあったのだ。

もう一度、そんな寮歌の世界観に浸ってみたいと思った。学生時代の仲間たちと、ふたたび「二更を過ぐる星月夜（づくよ）の下、瀬音も高き青春の美酒（うまき）」を汲みかわそうと思う。

そして、新たな邂逅を積み重ねていこう。
