美術館で、たくさんの絵に囲まれて、「なんか全部一緒~」と思ったことのある人いませんか?

Today I'll introduce a book written by a Japanese artist. He is known to reconstruct traditional Japanese art 'Suiboku-ga' to match to modern style. His name is Hiroshi Senju, his masterpiece is 'Water fall'.

First of all, 'Suiboku-ga' was handed from China to Japan with Zen in 12 century. It is drawn by only black ink and expressed all creation, all nature, all universe by just ink gradation.

But this book, I picked up, is not about Japanese art. The title is 'The guide of NY art'.If you are not familiar with art, it would be easy to read and understand. It's thin too.

He has lived and worked in NY for long time. Of course, he had been to a lot of museums there. In his experience, this book talks about 'how to look at art' easily and originally.

For example, he says 'look at ears if you want to know how good the artist is'. Sometimes we feel lost surrounded by many many similar pictures, don't we? He suggests to compare the ears, because these parts are especially difficult to be drawn and artists tend to slack off.

And can you say which sculpture is excellent or not? He says 'Can you feel deep atmosphere around it?' The deeper the atmosphere is, the more excellent it is. It doesn't matter the details.

The advice is very impressive, so I can't look at art without reminding myself. Looking at art will be much more fun when we know the points that are recognized different!

----今日のポイント------

■remind myself
myselfを忘れないように

■adviceのような不可算名詞を使う時は、『The piece of advice (news, equipment, knowledge, information, one's brain )』

最後のは、pick one's brainとも言うそうです。お知恵を拝借、ってコトですよね。Brainっていうのが直接的で英語っぽいなーと思いました^^
