Jaaaaaaap!

As some lf you might have guessed but indeed this is a story of my life.

I was always perceived as a person who is not Japanese. I guess I can say I was always a foreigner in my own country.

When I was 14, I went to England for home stay.
One day my host family took me to a touristy place. Probably a castle.

My host family was quite interesting. The mother was an English lady, the Father was a quarter English three quarter Japanese person. They adopted a baby from Japan, so my host sister looked Japanese although she only grew up in England and only spoke English.

Going back to the touristy castle. She and I were just walking, minding our businesses on the road. All of a sudden I heard this little white boy who looked like 3 or 4 years old screamed at us saying “Jaaaaaap!”
My host sister was so furious her face turned pale.
At that point I did not really know what that word meant.
A while later, maybe even few years later, I learned what that word “Jap” meant.

And I thought to mylself. Finally one person considered me as a Japanese person! Which brought me a weirdly twisted joy.
But then few moments later I realised “Nope, I wasn’t the Jap right here. Unfortunately.”
