There are two points, A and B, on the graph of the equation Y = ax^2. Given that A has coordinates (-5, 10) and B has coordinates (5/2, y), what are the values of a and y?
Additionally, what is the slope and intercept of the line AB?

a and y

First, substitute the coordinates A (-5, 10) into the equation.
Y = a ×x × x
10 = a ×(-5) × (-5)
10 = 25a
a = 10 / 25
a = 2/5
Next, substitute the coordinates B (5/2, y) into the equation.
Y = a × x ×x
y = a × (5/2)× (5/2)
y = 25/4 * a
Substitute the previously found value of a (a = 2/5) to determine y.
y = 25/4 × (2/5)
y = 50/20
y = 5/2

slope and intercept

Solving by a system of equations:
10 = -5a + b
5/2 = 5/2a + b
From the equations:
-5a + b = 10
5a + 2b = 5
Thus, b = 5.
Substituting b:
-5a + 5 = 10
a = -1
Therefore, the slope is -1, and the y-intercept is 5.
