Nagoya to Hakata: The fastest and cheapest ways of getting there!

The city of Nagoya is about 340km west of Tokyo, roughly 760km east of Kyushu. It is Japan's fourth largest incorporated city, and Japan's third most populous urban area. Centrally located, it is one of the nation's most important transportation hubs, historical centers and industrial powerhouses.  Here’s how to get from Nagoya to Hakata and back—and why you should visit. 

How to travel between Nagoya and Hakata

The regular one way fare is ¥18,890($164) for a reserved seat, and ¥17,830($154) for a non-reserved seat on any train. Nozomi trains require about 200 minutes to reach Hakata from Nagoya, Hikari trains require about 210 minutes to reach Hakata from Nagoya. If you transfer to Hikari train and Sakura train without using "Nozomi", you can reduce the one-way fare for reserved seats  and it is about ¥18,020($156).

Round-trip discounts are available between Nagoya and Hakata, where the one-way distance is more than 601 kilometers. If you purchase a round-trip ticket at the same time, you can get a discount ticket for reserved seats on the Nozomi train which is ¥17,770($153), and the fare for non-reserved seats is ¥16,690($145).

By Bus

You can transfer by overnight buses between Nagoya and Hakata. Also, this is the cheapest way to transfer there. The one way trip takes about 10 hours. One way is based on a travel date around ¥10,000($86). You have to make a reservation for the seat and the online reservations can be made through ( https://www.atbus-de.com). By flight

There are two airports available to get from Nagoya to Fukuoka. Also it has a tour plan that can be used cheaply by combining an airplane and a hotel. The one way trip takes about 1.5 hours. There are many flights between Chubu International Airport and Fukuoka Airport every day. The fares depend on the airline, season and holidays. The price of the flag carriers is around ¥7,500($65) to ¥40,000($347) and its Low-cost carriers is around ¥5,000($43) to ¥30,000($260). 

Komaki Airport in Nagoya is a prefectural airport, but there are direct flights to Fukuoka Airport. The price is around ¥10,000($86) to 30,000($260). Compared to Chubu Centrair International Airport, the number of trains is small, but Komaki airport is closer from Nagoya city than Chubu International Airport.
