Feel Your "Wants" あなたの願いは何ですか？

What would you like to do if you were good at English? If you could understand and speak English without problem. Would you like to live in a foreign country? Would you like to make friends with people from around the world? Or maybe, you might just want to watch movies in English without subtitles. Or you could work internationally taking advantage of your English skills.

もし英語が出来たら何をしたいですか？問題なく英語が理解できて話すことが出来たら、何をしますか？外国に住む？世界中の人と友達になりたい？もしかして、字幕なしで洋画を見たいというのかもしれない。それか、英語力を活かしてインターナショナルに仕事するとか。

If you want to achieve something, like improving your English skills, it's important to feel your "wants." "I want to do this." "I want to be able to do that." "If I could, I would do this and that." Do not focus on "have to," which can make the process of learning an obligation, not fun. Of course, there are things you have to do in order to achieve your goal, but first, you should start with your "wants" and always keep them in your mind because they are the things that can keep you going when you face difficulties.

英語を上達させたいとか、何か達成したいことがある時に、自分の "want" を感じることが大切。「こうしたい。」「あれが出来るようになりたい。」「出来るようになったら、こんなことやあんなことしよう。」"have to" にフォーカスしないこと。そうすると、学びのプロセスは義務になってしまって楽しいものではなくなってしまう。もちろん、目標達成のためにはしなきゃいけないこともあるのだけれど、まずは自分がこうしたい、なりたいという "want" でスタートして、それを常に覚えておきたい。なぜなら、それこそが、困難に出会った時に努力し続ける原動力になるから。

If you are struggling to learn English and sometimes feel like giving up, ask your self "Why am I doing this?" "What would my life be like if I could speak English well?" Think about what makes your heart pound, what sparks joy and write them down on a piece of paper.

もしあなたが英語学習に奮闘していて時に諦めたくなるようなことがあるなら、自分自身にこう尋ねてみて欲しい。「なぜこれをしてるんだろう？」「英語が上手に話せたら、私の人生はどんな風になるだろうか？」と。あなたの心を躍らせるものは何だろう？心がときめくものは何だろう？それを紙に書きだしてみて下さい。

I myself do that. I write down my thoughts and what I want to do and why, and looking at my own notes can remind me of my wants and give me energy to carry on. 

私自身もそうしています。自分の思いや、自分がやりたいこと、その理由を書き出してみる。自分が書いたメモを見ると、自分の願いを思い出し、前に進む力をもらえるのです。
