梅花黄蓮 （バイカオウレン）の記事の中で
今回はその学名をタイトルにしたものどあり
『五枚に切れている葉』を意味するもの。

今年、２回目の記事となるバイカオウレン。
六甲高山植物園にて、花が咲く姿を捉えて
何枚かを掲載するものとなる。

バイカオウレンと云えば、牧野富太郎博士
が植物への探求の生涯を描いた日本での
テレビドラマシリーズの冒頭に登場する。
このバイカオウレンに惚れ込んだのことを
きっかけに牧野富太郎が植物への探究心に
目覚めて、のめり込んでく大切なシーンが
印象に残るものであった。


しかし、このドラマの撮影が始まったその
季節は実は秋なのである。バイカオウレンが
咲くのは初春の時期の植物であり、もちろん
どうこう出来る植物ではない。そう、ドラマ
の中に出てくるバイカオウレン群は、総てが
精巧に作られたものである。昔のモノクロの
１４インチサイズの画面のブラウン管テレビ
ならば何とでもなるのであろうが、今の一般
家庭にある液晶テレビなんてものは、画像の
高精細な再現技術で、４Ｋ、８Ｋであったり
するのに加え、画面も５０インチは当たり前
の時代。そんな大画面で映し出されるそれは
もう本物にしか見えない出来で素晴らしいと
感じたものであった。


牧野富太郎博士が床に伏してしまった晩年に
高知からの見舞客が訪れた際に、彼らの手で
持参されたバイカオウレンを目の前に博士は
その株に頬を擦り付け『故郷の香りがする』
と故郷の地を懐かしんだものとされている。


牧野富太郎博士より描かれたバイカオウレン
のボタニカルアートを目にされた方も多いと
思うが、イラストの中で最も際立って美しい
色に彩色されている部分が、この特徴的な葉
の画像である。

テレビのワンシーンでお菓子の菊葉の再現の
素晴らしを褒め称えるシーンで、そのときに
バイカオウレンの葉の造形の美しさについて
語るシーンの中、博士が植物の花だけでなく
の葉を褒め称えるシーンが私には嬉しかった。

植物は花の造形の美しさも大切だが、その葉
や他の部位にも見るべきところは多くある。
と、そんな事を牧野博士は教えてくれる。


牧野富太郎植物園のロゴに使われているのは
バイカオウレンの別名にもなる、五加葉黄蓮
（ゴカヨウオウレン）の名を表した葉っぱが
このロゴマークとなっている。

This year marks the second article featuring Baika Ouren. Capturing the blooming flowers at the Rokko Alpine Botanical Garden, several images will be included in the publication.

When it comes to Baika Ouren, it appears at the beginning of a Japanese television drama series depicting the lifelong botanical exploration of Dr. Tomitaro Makino. The pivotal moment when Dr. Makino became enamored with this Baika Ouren served as the catalyst for awakening his curiosity and passion for plants, creating a cherished and memorable scene.

However, the season when the filming of this drama began was actually autumn. Baika Ouren blooms in early spring, and, of course, it's not a plant that can bloom on cue. Yes, the Baika Ouren group appearing in the drama is entirely meticulously crafted. In the era of old monochrome 14-inch CRT televisions, anything might have worked, but with today's LCD TVs in general households, equipped with high-definition image reproduction technology, 4K, 8K resolutions, and screens that are commonplace at 50 inches or more, what is displayed on such large screens looks so authentic and splendid that it's beyond comparison.


In his later years, when Dr. Tomitaro Makino was bedridden, visitors from Kochi brought Baika Ouren with them. When presented with the plant, Dr. Makino rubbed his cheek against its leaves, stating, "It smells like my hometown," reminiscing about his place of origin.


Many have likely seen Dr. Tomitaro Makino's botanical art featuring Baika Ouren, and among the illustrations, the most strikingly beautiful and vividly colored part is the image of these distinctive leaves.

In a TV scene where the exquisite reproduction of chrysanthemum leaves in sweets is praised, there is a moment when Dr. Makino compliments not only the flowers but also the beauty of the leaves of Baika Ouren. This scene, where the doctor appreciates and praises the foliage, brought me great joy.

Plants, Dr. Makino teaches us, not only hold beauty in the floral structure, but there is also much to appreciate in their leaves and other parts.


The logo of the Tomitaro Makino Botanical Garden features leaves representing the alternate name of Baika Ouren, known as Gokayou Ouren, emphasizing the significance of the leaf, becoming the emblem for the garden.
