◎ 第63回(2020/2021)グラミー賞ノミネート発表~例年以上に納得感のいかないノミネート

ノミネート。
アメリカ音楽業界最大のお祭り、第63回グラミー賞の候補が2020年11月24日(日本時間25日未明)発表された。全84部門のうち、今年は「Best Immersive Audio Album」部門のノミネート選考がまにあわなかったために、来年発表することになった。63回分と64回分は別に候補・受賞者を決定する。その他の83部門は2021年1月31日(日)夜(日本時間2月1日午前)ロスアンジェルスのステイプルズ・センターで発表される。日本では、有料衛星放送WOWOWで生中継される。司会は帯番組を持っているトレヴァー・ノア。
候補になるための有資格期間は、2019年9月1日から2020年8月31日までに全米でリリースされたもの。一昨年までは10月1日から9月30日までだったので、一か月前倒しされている。昨年2018年10月1日から2019年8月31日までに期間が11か月に短縮され前倒しされたものを受けて、今年は9月から8月までの12か月間にもどった。
今回のノミネーション最多は、9部門のビヨンセ、これに次ぐのがテイラー・スウィフト、デュア・リパ、ラディ―・リッチの6部門。
今回もいくつか変更点がある。
名称が変わったもの。「ベスト・アーバン・コンテンポラリー・アルバム」が「ベスト・プログレシヴ・R&B アルバム」に、「ベスト・ラップ/サング・パフォーマンス」が「ベスト・メロディック・ラップ・パフォーマンス」に、「ベスト・ラテン・ポップ・オア・アーバン・アルバム」と「ラテン・ロック、アーバン・オア・オルタナティヴ・アルバム」の2部門が「ベスト・ラテン・ロック・オア・オルタナティヴ・アルバム」に統合、「ベスト・ワールド・ミュージック・アルバム」が「ベスト・グローバル・ミュージック・アルバム」に名称変更された。また、「ベスト・ニュー・アーティスト(新人賞)」のリリースの最大数の制限が削除された。

詳しい分析などはのちほどまとめるとして、ブルーズ部門でファンタスティック・ネグリートがアルバム3作連続でノミネートされた。過去2作は見事受賞しており、果たして3作連続なるか。また、プロデューサー部門(ノン・クラシカル)で、サンダーキャットのアルバム『イット・イズ・ホワット・イット・イズ』をプロデュースしたフライング・ロータスがノミネートされている。また、「ベスト・ヒストリカル・アルバム」で、ナット・キング・コールの1936年から1943年の作品『ヒッティン・ザ・ランプ:ジ・アーリー・イヤーズ(1936―1943)を編纂したゼヴ・フェルドマンらが受賞候補となっている。
主要4部門(「レコード・オブ・ジ・イヤー」「アルバム・オブ・ジ・イヤー」「ソング・オブ・ジ・イヤー」「ベスト・ニュー・アーティスト」)は各8候補が選出されている。

毎回つっこみどころ満載のグラミー賞だが、今回はいつにもなく反発が巻き起こっている。一番の話題は、昨年(2019年)から今年にかけて大きな話題を集めたアーティストがノミネート入りしていないこと。特に、ベストセラー、大ヒットを出しているウィークエンドがノミネートまったくなしという異常事態は業界騒然だ。
噂によると、ウィークエンドはすでにノミネートに入っていたので、NARASからライヴのオファーがあったが、ウィークエンドは「スーパーボール」の出演が決まっていたようで、「スーパーボールか、グラミー、どちらかを選べ」と言われ、「スーパーボール」を選んだところ、ノミネートがすべてなくなったらしい。グラミーとスーパーボールは開催時期が近いため、両方でライヴをすることはできないという決まりがある。ただ、スーパーボールの視聴者(約1億人)とグラミーの視聴者(約2千万人弱)なので、どちらかを選べと言われれば、スーパーボールになる。ライヴはスーパーボール、グラミーは会場出席という折衷案はなかったのだろうか。
またノミネートの不透明性が今年もかなり浮き彫りにされており、どんどんとNARASへの風当たりが強くなっている。ひょっとして強い事務所やレーベルが、NARASに裏で強力なロビー活動などをしているのだろうか。もちろん、ある程度の動きはあるだろうが。たとえば、アリシア・キーズ、ビヨンセ関連などは異様に強い印象がある。このあたりも時間とともにいろいろな話がでてくるものと思われるが、ひょっとしてグラミーも利権対象になっているのだろうか。それとも、音楽を聴く耳を持つ関係者が少なくなっているのか。その劣化ぶりが懸念される。
