どころか

“どころか” is a phrase used to express a situation that is the opposite of what was expected.

薬を飲み続けているが、体調は良くなるどころか、悪くなる一方だ。
くすりをのみつづけているが、たいちょうはよくなるどころか、わるくなるいっぽうだ。
I've been taking medicine, but far from getting better, my health is only getting worse.

彼はリストラされたが、落ち込むどころか、より条件の良いオファーが来て喜んでいた。
かれはりすとらされたが、おちこむどころか、よりじょうけんのよいおふぁーがきてよろこんでいた。
He was laid off, but far from being upset, he was happy to receive a better job offer.

It is also used in the expression “not only ~ but also ~”.

彼女の曲は、日本どころか世界中で大人気だ。
かのじょのきょくは、にほんどころかせかいじゅうでだいにんきだ。
Her songs are popular not only in Japan but all over the world.

彼は日本語どころか韓国語も中国語も話せます。
かれはにほんごどころかかんこくごもちゅうごくごもはなせます。
He can speak not only Japanese but also Korean and Chinese.

Both usages give the impression that the speaker is surprised or finds the situation unexpected.
