Did she! アイツだったか！

“Did she!” is one of the English expressions I’ve learnt in Hawaii at the end of last year.

「彼女でしたか！」 昨年末にハワイで学んだ英語表現の一つです。

Christmas present for my wife

The crossbody bag above is a Christmas present that I bought for my wife in Ala moana shopping center in Honolulu.

First of all, my wife looked for an item she wanted me to buy at the store while I looked after my kids.
She left there after she decided it and told me which item she wanted. 

Then, I visited the place and spoke to a sales associate to buy the item my wife wanted.
He said to me “You are very lucky because this is the last one.” Then I asked ”Do you remember a female customer who came here about 30 minutes ago and tried to buy it? She is my wife.”

“Did she!!” he screamed.

I could not understood the grammar but I understood what he thought in the situation.

上の肩掛けのミニバッグは、ホノルルのアラモアナショッピングセンターで妻に買ったクリスマスプレゼントです。

まず、私が子供の世話をしている間、妻が店で買ってほしい商品を探しました。
妻は商品を決めた後、そこを去り、欲しい商品を教えてくれました。

それから、私はそのお店に訪れ、妻が欲しがっていた商品を購入するために、店員さんに話しかけました。

彼は私にこう言いました。
『あなたはラッキーですよ。この商品は最後の1つです。』

それから私は尋ねました。
『30分ほど前に来て買おうとした女性客を覚えていますか？ 彼女は私の妻です。』
と答えました。

すると『彼女でしたか!!』と店員さんは叫びました。

私はその言葉の文法は理解できませんでしたが、店員さんがその状況で何を考えているかはわかりました。
