Our marriage procedures and events

7 years have passed since our marriage and I was surprised to realize that over 15 years have passed since I first met my husband.

This article will be a brief outline of our experiences throughout our years together. I decided to write in this way to organize my memories. In addition, I might write some experiences in detail if I want to share them in subsequent articles.

Where we met

We met in the United States when I was in Illinois as an exchange student from my university. We started dating from then and continued our relationship after I came back to Japan.

Common language

English and Japanese

We first spoke both English and Japanese to communicate and understand each other. Since we live in Japan now, we mainly speak in Japanese.

Where we live

Live in Japan
We both worked in Japan before our marriage, so it was a natural decision to continue to live in Japan. However, we lived in different prefectures. Therefore, I decided to move to where my husband lived and changed my job.

Marriage procedures

We decided to register for our marriage in Japan. The documents we needed to prepare were different than couples from the same nationalities.

Visa

Changed my husband's work visa to spouse visa after our marriage registration.

Wedding ceremony

We had our ceremony in Hawaii and spent our time with both of our families. We both had a chance to see each other's parents before our marriage. However, both family members met each of them for the first time.

The most important belief for us

Since we have different nationalities, we always discuss the matters whenever it's necessary. Moreover, awareness of respecting each other is the most important belief for us. However, this belief is a common idea for every couple no matter where you are from. So nothing is considered special for us.
