夫婦でYouTubeを撮影してみた①

It has probably been about seven or eight years since my husband and I began to enjoy bicycling as a hobby. When we go to bike shops or participate in group rides or events, it is easy to get to know people of both sexes when we are a couple, and we are remembered rather quickly as people who are a couple. Through bicycling, the number of friends and acquaintances has increased dramatically.
夫婦で自転車を趣味にするようになって７〜８年ぐらいだろうか。
自転車屋さんに行っても、グループライドやイベントに参加しても、夫婦でいると男女問わず知り合いになりやすいし、夫婦でいる人たちという感じで、わりとすぐに覚えてもらえる。自転車を通じて、友達や知人が、急激に増えた。

Many times, I have been told that if a couple shares the same hobby, you should do YouTube, but each time, we have both shook our heads and shook our heads sideways to say “NO”.
そんななかで、せっかく夫婦で同じ趣味なら、YouTubeをやったらいいのにと言われることは何度もあったのだけれど、その度に二人して首をブンブン横にふってきた。

We do not have the ability to talk funny in front of the screen, nor are we skilled cyclists, beautiful men or women, nor do we have any special stories. Above all, it must take a lot of time and effort to think of the content, film it, edit it, and so on. It was our common understanding that we would never do it. ......
画面の前で面白いことしゃべれるわけでもないし、自転車のスキルが高いわけでもない、美男美女でもないし、特別なネタがあるわけでもない。何より内容を考えて、撮影して、編集して…という手間と時間は相当かかるに違いない。絶対にやらないというのは私たちの共通認識だったのだが……。

In the latter half of last year, I had a series of opportunities to interview women in their 60s, 70s, and even 90s for my main job as a writer for a magazine on the theme of seniors living vibrantly and beautifully. Most of the women I interviewed were on YouTube, which led me to interview them.
昨年の後半、本業の雑誌のライターの仕事で、生き生きとすてきに暮らす先輩たちというようなテーマで、60代、70代、さらには90代の女性たちにインタビューをする機会が続いた。
そして、インタビューをした彼女たちのほとんどがYouTubeで発信していて、それがきっかけで取材を受けることになったのだった。

To be honest, I don't usually watch YouTube very often. I only watched it as a preliminary research when I was interviewing YouTubers for work, or to watch music videos of musicians I was interested in.
正直に言うと、私は普段あまりYouTubeを見ない。仕事でYouTuberさんの取材をするときに、下調べとして見るか、気になるミュージシャンのミュージックビデオを見るくらいだった。

When I looked at the YouTube videos of the people I was asked to interview this time, I found a variety of styles.
Some have grandchildren or children filming to advertise their family-run stores; others started by learning filming and editing on their own, inspired by the Corona Disaster; still others speak on a theme of the moment in front of a screen, while others convey their message with no voice at all, using only subtitles
今回立て続けに、取材することになった方々のYouTubeを見ていたら、そのスタイルはいろいろだった。
家族経営のお店の宣伝を兼ねて、孫や子どもが撮影しているという方や、コロナ禍をきっかけに、独学で撮影や編集を学んでスタートしたという方、画面を前にして、そのときどきのテーマを話すスタイルもあれば、声は一切入らず、テロップだけでメッセージを伝えるスタイルも。

What they have in common is that they are always taking on new challenges, even as they get older. I wanted to learn from them, and it suddenly occurred to me that it might be a good idea for us to start our own YouTube channel, too, without getting carried away.
共通しているのは、年齢を重ねても常に新しいことを取り入れ、挑戦しているということ。見習いたいなと思ったし、自分たちも気負わず、始めてみてもいいのではと、ふと思ったのだ。

When I talked to my husband about it, surprisingly, he readily agreed to give it a try. We are not particularly distinctive characters, nor are we good talkers. However, it would be interesting if we could film our daily riding style and the city scenes so that people would think that bicycles are fun, or that they would like to go there on a trip or for a walk. Since last summer, our theme has been to "communicate" with the public.
夫に話をしたところ、意外にも「やってみようか」とすんなり乗り気だった。
自分たちは特別キャラが立っているわけでもないし、しゃべりがうまいわけでもない。けれど、普段のライドスタイルや、街の様子を撮影して、自転車って楽しそうだなとか、旅行や散歩で、あそこに行ってみたいな、と思えってもらえるような映像が撮れたら、面白いかもしれない。
昨年の夏頃から、「発信しよう」が自分たちのテーマでもあった。

So, first of all, my husband pulled out his GoPro5, which he bought when we first started riding our bike and hadn't used in a long time, and started shooting at the end of the year.
そんなわけで、まずは自転車に乗り始めた頃に買ってずっと使っていなかったGoPro5を久しぶりにひっぱりだしてきて、年末に撮影をスタートした。

We had just borrowed two folding bicycles, a yellow and a pink BROMPTON, to help out on the BROMPTON Japan ride. We started ...... with an image of a leisurely-paced stroll through Tokyo, stopping at cafes and having fun, but it was far from that. Far from being a pleasant, relaxed image, it was a tense, tense ...... ride, and the first shoot was a test of our patience.
ちょうど、BROMPTON Japanのライドのお手伝いをするということでお借りした折り畳み自転車、黄色とピンクのBROMPTONが２台。のんびりペースで都内をお散歩ライド、カフェに寄ったりして、ほんわか楽しいイメージで……と始めてみたが、とんでもない。
ほんわか楽しいイメージとは程遠い、ギスギス、ピリピリ……、忍耐力が試される初回撮影となったのだった。
