Day 3 Lascaux Cave paintings

The cave paintings at Lascaux are one of the earliest known works of art. They were discovered in 1940 in France, it consists of around 1,500 paintings of animals. There are several theories regarding the function of the paintings like the prehistoric people believed that the act of drawing animals, especially with a high degree of accuracy, would bring the beasts under their control or increase their numbers in times of scarcity. 
The caves were opened to the public in 1948, however, the site closed in 1963 as a protective measurement because too many people had visited there. In order to satisfy public demand, a life-sized replica of the cave was completed in 1983, only 200 meters from the original.

There are skills that you will never acquire no matter how hard you try. Painting is one of them and I am the one who has never got the skill. "See it, watch it, observe it and then draw it." The art teacher told me but it seemed almost impossible to do that. Yes, there was an objective, yes I could see it and thought that I got the perfect lines in my mind and what I needed was just following the instruction by myself. But what appeared in the sketchbook, which was supposed to be like a picture, was totally different from what I had captured in my mind. So I have a deep respect for those people who are good at painting. It's like a magic for me and there is no wonder at all if the ancient people considered that there were special power in those paintings. Humankind has been trying to control nature and animals from the beginning of history and we call the shaman.

There is one thing for sure. My ancestors were not a part of them.
