November 7, 2022：My Wife, Commuting (2), Dramatic Changes around the Train Section（僕の妻、通勤（2）、通勤区間周辺の大きな変化）

I had the time to talk with my wife about the train section she uses to go to work. It only takes her about ten minutes from our nearest station to the station for her office. But the area has undergone dramatic changes. About twenty years ago, it only had four stations. After that, it has seen a lot of land developments. First, it saw a new station and one of the largest shopping malls in Japan. A few years later, an old station had a significant change. It had such a large shunting yard between up and down platforms that it took about ten minutes to move between them on foot. But it dismantled the yard and reduced the distance between them to make it an ordinary station like others. Then, it saw a shopping mall and new apartments and houses. These have changed it into a bustling area and attracted many people. Moreover, another new station stood between these stations. It has also gripped a lot of people.
These are good for the overall section. But it takes the bustle from around my home and makes it deserted. The new mayor, who won the election a few weeks ago, does not intend to redevelop my area. It is a great pity!

　妻と通勤に使う電車の区間の話になりました。電車に乗っている時間は10分ほどなのですが、その区間が様変わりしています。以前は、最寄り駅から妻の職場のある駅の間には4つの駅しかありませでした。ところが、沿線の開発が進み、日本でも最大級のショッピングモールができたので、新駅ができました。そして、それから数年後に、以前からあった途中駅も様変わりしました。その駅には、上りホームと下りホームの間に巨大な操車場があって、上りホームから下りホームに移動するのに、歩いて10分くらいかかる程不便な駅でした。その駅周辺にショッピングモールができて、上りと下りホームの間隔が世間並みになりました。そのお陰で、マンションなども立ってすごく賑わっています。更に、この駅と新駅の間にまた新しいできができました。この駅周辺も賑わっています。そのお陰で、ボク家の周辺がすごく寂れた感じになってきました。先日の市長選で当選した市長も、ボクの最寄り駅周辺の再開発な念頭にないようです。残念！
