May 27: Yuji Ayabe, Comedian, Learning English in the U.S.A （綾部祐二さん、お笑い芸人、米国での英語学習）
It has been five years since I last watched Yuji Ayabe on screen. He was a partner of his comedy duo Peace alongside Naoki Matayoshi in Japan. He moved to the United States to be a Hollywood star five years ago. However, he had never been in the news since he moved there. So, I had almost forgotten about him.
He began YouTube. He had a shaper face and a calmer tone than before.
In his first episode, he talked about having trouble learning English, which is helpful for me to learn English.
He has been studying English for five years in New York. At first, to have more opportunities to talk in English, he went to various English conversation schools and joined the meetings in which English learners taught English to each other. However, such efforts did not help him enhance his English ability.
5年ぶりに綾部祐二さんをスクリーンで観ました。漫才コンビ・ピースの又吉直樹さんの相方です。綾部さんは、ハリウッドスターを目指して渡米しました。それから約5年が経過しました。でも、残念ながらこの5年間に綾部さんのニュースはありませんでした。そのため、ボクも綾部さんのことを忘れかけていました。
その綾部さんがYouTubeを始めました。綾部さんの表情は昔にくらべるとキリッとしている印象です。話し方も、昔より落ち着いた口調でした。
動画の話題は、英語の苦労話です。英語を勉強する上で参考になります。
綾部さんはニューヨークで5年間必死に英語の勉強をされたようです。当初は、英語で会話をする機会をもとめてスクールに通ったり、英語が第二語学の人同士で教え合う場に通ったそうです。話すこと最優先で取り組んだようですが、なかなか上達しなかったそうです。
