January 4, 2022：フランス、プラスチック類の禁止、過剰包装 (France, Ban on Plastic Packaging, Overwrapping)

 A new law took effect on New Year's Day in France. Since then, French merchants have been prohibited from using plastic packaging for thirty fruit and vegetables like eggplants, tomatoes, apples, bananas and oranges. Scotland is considering a new law that is stricter than the French one. It prohibits Scottish merchants from using plastic cutlery, plates, straws, muddlers and expanded polystyrene food containers.
 Japan is also making efforts to reduce plastics and excess wrapping. However, there are still a lot of such cases in Japan. Book covers or bags at bookstores are a typical case. They waste both paper and time. Another case is snacks. They drastically decrease in net weight but remain unchanged in plastic use. Some snacks should be available for buy by weight.
It was fun for me to buy snacks by weight.

　元日に、フランスで新しい法律が施行されました。以降、フランスでは、野菜やフルーツのプラスチック包装が禁止となりました。対象は、ナス、トマト、リンゴ、バナナ、オレンジなど約30品目。スコットランドでは、もっと厳しい法律が検討されている。プラスチックのカトラリー、皿、ストロー、マドラーや発泡スチロール容器などの使用禁止が検討されている。
　日本もプラスチック類や過剰包装を減らす取り組みを行っていますが、まだまだ過剰包装が目に付きます。書店のブックカバーや袋は典型例です。お菓子に至っては、内容量は減っているのに包装は変わりません。量り売りにしてはどうでしょうか。量り売りはやってみると以外と楽しいです。
