July 10, 2022: To Switzerland on Business, Chiasso, Ticino (仕事でスイスへ、ティチーノ州キアッソ)
The Swiss customer I had visited most often was at Chiasso in the Italian-speaking part. It is a town on the border between Switzerland and Italy. I had two routes to go there. One of them is the route via Zurich. I took a flight in a small plane from Zurich to Lugano. It flew over the Swiss Alps at such a low altitude that I could see mountains with snow below from it. Lugano is a neighbouring town of Chiasso and has a beautiful Lake Lugano, which extends to Italy.
I had a train from Chiasso to Zurich Airport only once. It was a 4-to-5 hour-long trip, including two connections. But it showed me superb mountain scenery when it ran through the high mountains after passing through a long tunnel below the Alps. My colleague from Japan was so impressed by it as to take one photo after another.
Another route is to take a train from Milan, Italy. When I visited a customer in Milan the day before, I took a train from the central station to Chiasso. It took about one hour to reach Chiasso, offering a beautiful Lake Como on its way. I took the route many times but had never got my passport checked at Chiasso station.
最も多く訪問したお客さんは、イタリアとスイスの国境の町・キアッソにありました。キアッソに行くルートは2つありました。一つは、チューリッヒから小型ジェット機に乗って、隣町のルガノ空港に向かうルートです。小型ジェット機の飛行高度は低いため、スイスアルプスを横切る時に見える雪山は絶景でした。ルガノには、イタリアまで広がる美しい湖があります。
一度、キアッソからチューリッヒ空港まで電車で移動したことがあります。キアッソから、2回くらい乗り換えてチューリッヒに向かいました。当時は、4～5時間くらいかかりました。途中、スイスアルプスを縦断するトンネルを抜けると、電車は両側に迫る高い山の間を走り抜ける光景はまさに絶景でした。同行していた日本からの出張者は、感激して写真を撮りまくっていました。
もう一つは、イタリアのミラノから電車を利用するルートです。前日にミラノのお客さんを訪問した際は、ミラノの中央駅からキアッソに向かいました。途中で美しいコモ湖をながめながらの1時間くらいの旅です。このルートは何度も利用しましたが、パスポートをチェックされることはありませんでした。
