I was a beggar before I came here.
I could only exist as that.
　　私は乞食だった　ここへ来るまではね。
　　他に　生きようがなかったんだ。

The town, the village, the mountains, and the valleys,
all belonged to someone else.
I had nowhere to be.
　　町も　村も　山も　谷も
　　みんな　誰かの持ち物だった。
　　どこにも　居場所は無かった。

Water, food, trees, flowers,
they all belonged to someone else.
　　水も　食べ物も　樹木も　花も
　　みんな　誰かの物だった。

The stones, soil, sand, and salt,
all belonged to someone else, as well.
　　石も　土も　砂も　塩も
　　みんな　誰かの物だった。

Being born, and when I came to realize it, it was so.
I had nothing but air and sunshine.
Oh, and my shadow,
although it too had no place to be.
　　生まれて　気がついたら　そうなっていた。
　　私の物なんて　空気と　太陽の光くらいだっだ。
　　ああ　それから私の影もだ･･･
　　それにも　居場所は無かったけどね。

I came here and was said, "Who are you?"
I answered, "I am a beggar".
Then people I met asked me,
"What does it, 'beggar' mean?"
Many time I explained,
but they never get to understood at all.
　　ここへ来て　言われたんだ　「あなたは誰ですか」と。
　　だから答えた　「私は乞食ですよ」と。
　　そしたら　会う人みんなが訊きくんだ
　　「 “乞食” ？　それはどういう意味の言葉ですか？」と。
　　何度も説明したが　
　　全然　わかってもらえなかった。

But no wonder…
here, everything belongs to no one,
but to God.
　　まあ　無理もない･･･
　　ここでは　何もかも　誰の物でもない
　　神様の物だからね。

They all beg God for every blessings to keep them alive.
Something to breath,
something to drink,
to eat,
and to sleep,
yes, everything, as a blessing.
　　彼らは　生かしておいてもらうために　すべてを神様に乞う
　　呼吸するための　もの　
　　飲むための　もの　
　　食べるための　もの　
　　眠るための　もの　
　　そう　すべてを乞うんだ　お恵みとしてね。

So if they call someone a beggar,
they would have to call everyone a beggar.
　　だから　もし　誰かを乞食と呼んだら
　　全員を　乞食と呼ばねばならなくなるのだろう。

And now,
everyone call me,
"Sir Beggar".
Haha, sir for begger!
　　それで今は　
　　みんな　私をこう呼ぶんだ
　「乞食卿」ってね。
