英語日記 No.64

Today marks 79 years since Hiroshima was devastated by an atomic bomb. As my father’s father and two brothers died on that day by the atomic bomb, I always watch the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Ceremony live on TV. I was surprised to see some footage by an NHK cameraman zooming in on the Israeli ambassador when the Hiroshima governor pointed out during his speech that some countries are blowing up men, women, children, and the elderly with missiles and invading other countries’ territories.

On August 6 every year, I transcribe the English versions of the messages from the UN Secretary General, the Hiroshima Governor, Hiroshima children, and the Hiroshima Peace Declaration. It seems to me that world leaders have used only military force, ignoring that dialogue can overcome conflict to solve global issues. While writing down these messages, I want to think about peace.
