To myself ten years from now: Are you still a "Thinking Reed"
Booost Technologies, with its mission to create a more sustainable and net-zero future, often reflects on the kind of future its members envision. “Letters to the Future" is a regular series of articles in which our members share their thoughts and express their commitment to their work.
Achieving a sustainable world is not a simple task. This is especially true if we are to maintain the standard of living that has developed since the Industrial Revolution.
This is because most of the issues involved in sustainability are complex systems that are difficult to solve.
For example, macro issues include how to set reduction targets based on “circumstances in the northern and southern hemispheres with different economic development conditions” and “circumstances in countries with different geographical conditions, such as resource endowments,” etc. At a micro level, issues involve advancing the adoption of renewable energy while considering factors such as “a company's income and expenditures”, “the impact of development on the environment”, and “the socio-economic effects on local communities”.
To address these issues, it is crucial to maintain a balanced perspective by thinking both broadly and deeply.
Conversely, the benefits of technology may be leading the human brain to develop a tendency towards overly simplistic solutions.
For example, how often do we carefully choose our words when replying through communication tools? In our work, do we not often make judgments based on "seemingly correct information" retrieved from simple search queries, with little scrutiny?
Although enhancing speed is highly advantageous, the problem is that this brain habit may become deeply ingrained in our society, leading to overly simplistic collective decision-making.
In complex problem-solving scenarios, overly simplistic decisions often result in unexpected consequences that were not accounted for in the initial analysis. These unforeseen impacts can later emerge as black swan events, potentially causing major disruptions similar to the 2008 Lehman Brothers collapse.
By 2045, AI may achieve singularity, gaining the ability to understand all aspects of complex scenarios and make optimal decisions from multiple perspectives. However, at this very moment, the achievement of a sustainable world depends on the quality of human thinking.
When you read this letter ten years from now, ask yourself: Have you continued to be a "thinking reed" and contributed to achieving a sustainable world?
>After writing this article
In the spirit of a letter to the future, I've outlined my awareness of the issues I've been grappling with over the past few years, though expressed in an abstract manner. I am grateful to have been born into a challenging era that tests the essence of humanity, and I will remain dedicated to working towards a sustainable world.

Thank you for writing this article! Your letter is very original with its thesis-like style. It was clear and insightful, particularly through the specific examples of the challenges you’ve faced. The importance of thinking broadly and deeply while maintaining a balanced perspective is crucial. It reaffirmed for me that this is fundamental to sustaining our humanity in a world increasingly influenced by technology.
Looking forward to collaborating with you and create a sustainable world!
