【Profile】
What people call you: Liu-san
Department:Division of Marketing & Communications
Year joined:May 1st, 2022
Home town:Hubei Province, China

1:Tell us about your background
I was born and raised in a small town in the Hubei Province, about a 6-hour drive from Wuhan city. I lived there until high school, and moved to Wuhan for university to study anime and video design. After university, because of my love for Japanese content, I decided to study abroad in Japan.
Initially, I had planned to study anime in Japan, but I couldn’t see myself working in the anime industry. Instead, I decided to pursue my interest in user perception studies and enrolled in graduate school at Kyushu University.
Afterwards, I planned to work in Shanghai, but upon returning to my home country, I received an offer from the president of a marketing company in Fukuoka. This resulted in me moving to Japan once again.
After gaining several years of experience at the marketing company, I received an invitation from my graduate school professor and took a position as a project manager at a company that provides marketing support for manufacturers in Japan and China.
As my assigned project came to an end at the above company, I said goodbye to Fukuoka, where I had lived for a long time, and moved to Tokyo in 2019. There, I began working in sales for a content production company. Initially, I was supposed to handle new businesses for the Chinese market, but due to the impact of the pandemic, the company’s new projects were delayed, resulting in me working in existing businesses.
In that role, I found myself dealing with tasks that required digital knowledge, such as attracting traffic to our company’s website and website redesigns. As I considered what users were looking for and thought about their experiences, I realized the importance of marketing and was strongly drawn to that field.
While narrowing down my next career move, I came across beBit and connected deeply with beBit’s vision. So, I joined the company in May of 2022.

2:Why did you join beBit?
I answered this a bit in the previous questions, but a significant part of my decision was the company’s vision. Additionally, the opportunity to apply the importance of User Experience (UX), which I learned through my graduate studies in user sensitivity science, in a practical setting was particularly appealing as well. I was also drawn to the company because of its young workforce and emphasis on digital marketing, aligning perfectly with my interests and career aspirations.

3:Please tell us about the work you do at beBit
After joining the company, I joined the Market Development department, where I worked on a wide range of tasks from planning to operations, including seminars and email marketing. Since 2023, I have transferred to the Division of Marketing & Communications, where I continue to handle the operation of email newsletters and seminars.

4:Tell us what you value most when working
I value establishing an environment where it’s easy to communicate and engage in conversations with colleagues.

5:Please share some tips on how to work effectively with you
In work, I prefer specific information over abstract expressions. For example, instead of a vague promise like “I’ll send it tomorrow,” I appreciate a precise time, such as “I will send it around 9am tomorrow.” Also, rather than general comments such as “the results were good,” I value specific feedback, such as “The open rate increased from an average of 15% to 20%, potentially due to the effective modification of the subject line.”

6:Tell us one thing you like about beBit
I feel that this organization is highly inclusive and accommodates a diverse range of personalities. For instance, there is an atmosphere where individuals that don’t speak out much and those who speak up a lot can communicate with each other with no issues. I really appreciate that the team has fostered an environment that is comfortable for everyone to work in.

7:What surprised you the most about beBit?
I was impressed by the company’s commitment to organizing the year-end party. While I’ve attended several year-end parties before, they were typically just gatherings where everyone would eat and chat together. However, the dedication in the preparation stage of the year-end party held by our company at the end of 2023 was incredible. I was particularly overwhelmed by how serious and enthusiastic all the participants were about the contents of the party.

8:Tell us about any interesting UX you have seen recently
I was very surprised with my experience at hotels during my vacation to Harbin. When I went to check into hotels that I booked through an app, the staff asked me to cancel the booking on the app so they could get out of paying the platform fees, and told me that if I did, my hotel fees would be discounted.
Apparently, this is a common way to cut the costs of platform fees. During my vacation, I was asked to do this at two different hotels.

9:What do you do during your free time?
I typically draw, or go eat hot pot with my friends!

10:Tell us about any challenges you would like to attempt
I want to be able to output results more effectively in my work, and I also want to ensure that I gather information and properly organize what I want to relay prior to communicating with others.
