Online Kobo with Chawan Potter Shouraku Kiln

Kameoka was the next stop on the travel of the Online Kobo. Kameoka is a city in the north of Kyoto, with an incredible landscape and beautiful nature. It is really unique. Also, it is calming to see this side of such a large city like Kyoto.
Besides this, the reason for the visit to this beautiful city was the pottery Shouraku, which is located a bit outside of the city. Between beautiful trees and an impressive landscape, the potter workshop is located.

Shouraku is a traditional company that produces potter ware in different forms and colours, all handmade with a deep appreciation for the details. They have some of their products on display in the first room and in the back of the building is where the work is taking place.

During the Online Kobo, the viewers were able to watch how the tea bowl is first modelled and how the artist is forming it. They are still dedicated to the work, keeping the traditional way of the production process. This was really interesting to see.

Besides forming the tea bowl, we were also shown how the heating is taken place which was really impressive. They place the bowl inside the hot oven for a few minutes before taking them out. The bowl is glowing then!
The whole process was really interesting to watch and I learned a lot this day.

The experience was really nice and unique, from the lovely landscape of Kameoka, the interesting work of the artisan and to learn more about traditional craft in Japan.

オンライン工房の旅の次は亀岡でした。亀岡は京都の北に位置する街で、素晴らしい景観と美しい自然があります。本当にユニークです。京都のような大都会の隣にこんな静かなところがあったのが印象的でした。
それに加えて、この美しい街を訪れた理由は、街から少し離れたところにある焼き物の「松楽」でした。
美しい木々と印象的な風景の間に、陶芸工房があります。

松楽は、形や色を変えて、細部にまでこだわった手づくりの器を作る伝統的な会社です。最初の部屋にはいくつかの商品を展示していて、奥の部屋では作業が行われているそうです。

オンライン工房では、茶碗がどのようにして最初にモデル化され、どのようにアーティストがそれを形成しているかを見ることができました。伝統的の製品の作り方を守りつつ、仕事に専念しているそうです。これは見ていて本当に面白かったです。

お茶碗の形を整える以外にも、加熱する様子を見せていただき、とても感動しました。彼らはそれらを取り出す前に、数分間熱いオーブンの中にボウルを置きます。その時、ボウルが光っています!
全体の流れがとても面白く、この日はとても勉強になりました。

亀岡の素敵な風景、職人さんの面白い仕事、日本の伝統工芸品についてもっと知ることができて、本当に素敵でユニークな体験ができました。
