本公演で57歳のレオンティン・プライスがオペラ引退。同役を42回演じる。PBSで中継され、wikiによると、公演後拍手が25分間鳴り止まず、2007年には視聴者が過去30年間のPBS放送METオペラから選ぶアリアNo. 1に、本３幕でのプライスの"O patria mia"が選ばれる。

感想
プライスは57歳と思えないほど若くて現役感十分ある。そういうところで引退したんだなあと。"O patria mia"の後の拍手が今までで一番長かった。ファンから、1961年からMETの舞台に立っている彼女の労いの思い。アムネリス王女が第4幕でラダメスが死刑宣告を受けた時に、後悔の念に襲われるところは、昨日の「ロベルト・デヴリュー」のエリザベッタ女王がロバート・デヴァルーの死刑宣告に懺悔の念を表すところを彷彿とさせる。とてもパワフルなシーン。そして共にヒロインの相手が大きな力に屈せず愛を貫き通すところも。

1985年と近年のMETの映像を見ていると、もちろん映像化技術は進んでいるがオペラ歌手の演技力が全般的に進化を遂げているし、舞台や衣装、合唱団員のスケールが一層壮大になっていると感じた。本演出のジョン・デクスターは、2018年ネトレプコ版アイーダでも演出を続けている。
