New art form from this pandemic
In any day and age, social situation has big influence to dance(art generally )and dance inevitably change due to the situation.
Sosial situations in Ballet and Jazz dance in the history
In our history, for example, origins of ballet and jazz dance looked totally different from what they look nowadays. They changed or developed not just because people have been seeking more beauty, but also they needed to change so that they could survive even in horribly tough situations.
ex) Ballet:
•Ballet- lover Italian lady got married with French King and ballet got popular in France.
•Romantic ballet both appeared and declined with the flow of Romanticism in society.
And many more, like Louis14 got born &died, French Revolution, Industrial revolution, World War, decline of women’s rights, Death of Sergei Diaghilev, etc... (link below is written only in Japanese.)
ex)Jazz dance:
•Slave trade,
•development of Jazz music,
•Cakewalk

black imitated those white who were imitating black who were imitating white

Popularization in worldwide
etc... (link below is written only in Japanese.)
But they never give up dancing and somehow found ways in order to keep dancing.
2020. COVID-19
We now have covid pandemic which is getting us horrible impact and seems like endless.
So many people have died and economy is dying too.
No gathering, no going outside.
So now dancers can’t go to studios, do rehearsals and create works with other dancers, can’t invite audience nor have them see their works in person.
We can’t do anything what we were doing before.
But
this time also, they never stop dancing/creating.
Dancevideo -solo-
There have been dance videos so far too, but not a lot like now and they were more like “editing” art, skills of editing, in my opinion.
New dance videos are focusing on more dance or simply they use creative ideas. Not “technique of computer “.
examples⇩⇩⇩Certificate Program students at Peridance Capezio Center in NY
•Sofia Lozano: Her ways to use tight space, depth of the room, and natural light are beautiful.
Camera Focusing on really close thing on purpose, which is really good highlighting her dance.
•Rebecca Gombar
Using mirror. Idea of taking video from above. Choreography was made considering reflection of the mirror and the view from above and everything matched really well.
•Alice Castro
Waackin×contemporary ×shower!?
She is also a photo/videographer, so always the compositions in her works are beautiful.
•Facu Ebenegger
Idea of moving camera is interesting and works really good.
Dancevideo -group-
We also can make a group piece by using technology, like zoom, iMovie and etc. You don't need any high level of computer knowledge, but just idea/creativity/playfulness.
• Sara Pizzi & Chauncey Pauley from The Next Stage Project by Marijike Eliasberg
Action and reaction. Beautiful camera work which must be difficult to compose, beautiful hands & foot motions, and funny story. Good balance.
If it would be performed on a stage in person, it would not be that interesting. But this is yes interesting . This is a good example of that dance video has a lot of possibilities to make anything interesting and is a totally different art from any other dance performance on a stage.
All of them can’t be expressed on a stage.
Online classes, competitions or battles are okay or good, but most of us prefer in person.
But dance videos like above are good because it’s not in person.
it can’t be made in person.
So many people have started to make dance videos since this pandemic started, so it’s still new.
(I guess it’s not only me who didn’t know zoom until quarantine started.)
Therefore, dance video will evolve more and more. I’m really excited to see it.
It depends more on idea/creativity than on dance techniques.
So everyone can easily to start exploring! Let’s try just for fun!
⇩⇩This is mine. No serious, just for fun! It's fun!
Ending
We human beings keep seeking more beauty in any day and age.
That’s why we have new fashion, makeup, hairstyles etc
Therefore, not only dance, but all art will keep changing , developing and evolving.
No matter how horribly tough situations come.
Thank you :)
Aika.
