せぎを巡る Irrigation in Japan

八ヶ岳サイクリングで人気の里山ライドは「せぎ」を身近に感じられるルートを使います。自転車に乗って小川にかかる橋を渡ります。水路に沿って畑の道を進みます。水の音が聞こえてきます。
これらの「せぎ」は江戸時代の先人たちが築いた灌漑施設です。今もなおこの地域の田畑をくまなく潤し、農業と治水を支えています。
One of the popular tour at Yatsugatake Cycling is the ride in nearby Satoyama area. As we pedal, we see the irrigation creeks and hear sounds of water. 
The irrigation system was built in Edo period and still fuily maintained and used for farming and for controlling water.
