China's President Xi Jinping will travel to Moscow next week for state visit to hold talks with President Vladimir Putin. The Kremlin says the two leaders are expected to discuss strategic cooperation and what they describe as a comprehensive partnership.

In a joint statement the UK government and education unions have announced they have agreed to hold intensive talks on teacher pay conditions and workload reduction.  The talks will begin today and run over the weekend.

Also in the UK following a three-day strike this week doctors, leaders and
ministers are being urged to start formal pay talks after a breakthrough on
a deal with other NHS staff in England.
