Aid agencies are calling for better access to the earthquake disaster zones in Turkey and Syria as the painstaking （綿密な、骨が折れる）search for survivors continues.  That is as the number of people killed rises to more than 24,000 while millions have been left homeless.

U.S fighter jets shot down an unidentified aircraft over Alaska.  President Biden gave the order to seek and destroy.  Troops are trying to salvage（救い出す、回収する）the wreckage.

Residents in Australia and New Zealand are urged to take shelter as Cyclone Gabrielle hurtles towards （速いスピードで～へ向かう）the islands threatening to bring destructive winds and heavy rain.  Forecasters say the category 2 Cyclone has Winds of up to 150 kilometers an hour.
