ミャンマーで軍による市民への弾圧が続いていることを受けて、茂木外務大臣は、記者会見で、軍の対応次第では、継続中のODA＝政府開発援助の停止も検討する考えを示しました。
Amid the military suppression against citizens of Myanmar, Japanese Foreign Minister Motegi considered suspending ODA to Myanmar, depending on military response.
ミャンマーで軍によるクーデターが起きたことを受け、日本政府は、ミャンマーへのODA＝政府開発援助の新規供与を見送る一方、すでに交換公文を締結している34件の円借款や26件の無償資金協力などは現在も継続しています。
Japan has suspended ODA(Official Development Assistance )aid to Myanmar due to the occurrence of a military coup.  However, Japan still continues to send loans and grants, including 34 loans and 26 grants.
茂木外務大臣は、記者会見で「事態の早期回復をミャンマー国民も国際社会も一致して望んでいるが、このままの事態が続けばODAを見直さざるをえない」と述べ、軍の対応次第では、継続中のODAも停止を検討する考えを示しました。
Foreign minister Motegi stated at a press conference that “Myanmar citizens and the international community are all hoping for an early recovery, but if the situation continues like this, we will have no choice but to review our ODA aid,” and depending on the military’s response, Japan will consider suspending the aid.

Tokyo could freeze all aid to Myanmar, Japan's foreign minister warned in an interview published Friday, as the military junta continues to use lethal force against opponents of its coup.
日本の外務大臣は、金曜日に掲載された記者会見の中で、ミャンマーへのすべての援助を凍結する可能性があると警告した。
Japan is a top donor to Myanmar, and has already suspended new aid after the military ousted civilian leader Aung San Suu Kyi.
日本はミャンマーへの最大の援助国だが、軍がアウンサンスーチー氏を追放した後、すでに新たな援助を停止した。
But Toshimitsu Motegi, speaking to the Nikkei newspaper, said the freeze could be expanded.
しかし、茂木敏充氏は日経新聞の取材に対し、凍結の範囲を拡大することも可能だと述べた。
"We don't want to do that at all, but we have to state firmly that it will be difficult to continue under these circumstances," he told the newspaper.
"As a country that supported Myanmar's democratisation in various ways, and as a friend, we must represent the international community and convey that clearly."
「私たちはそんなことは全く望んでいないが、このような状況下では継続が困難であることをしっかりと表明しなければなりません 、またミャンマーの民主化を様々な形で支援した国として、また友人として、国際社会を代表してそのことを明確に伝えなければならない。」と同紙に語った。
Motegi has said Japan is Myanmar's largest provider of economic assistance, and Tokyo has long-standing relations with the country's military.
茂木は、日本はミャンマーにとって最大の経済援助国であり、東京は同国の軍部と長年の関係があると述べている。
According to the Nikkei, Japan provided $1.74 billion in development aid to Myanmar in fiscal 2019, more than any other country with disclosed figures. China's aid figures are not public.
日本経済新聞によると、日本が2019年度にミャンマーに提供した開発援助額は17億4,000万ドルで、数字が公表されている国の中で最も多い。中国の援助額は公開されていない。
