Mel Robbins' 5-Second Rule - Motivation and life-changing tips

I'm always trying to do something, but I can't seem to act on it. I can't seem to do what I think is right...

Are you struggling from any of these problems?

Today, I'm going to introduce you one simple trick that will change your life 180 degrees, even if you're lazy.

Let me get straight to the point, I would recommend using a method called the ”5-second rule”.

What is the "5-second rule" method?

The 5-second rule can be a simple method of acting on a five-count anyway.

This was the method introduced by Mel Robbins, a former lawyer and TV presenter.

For example, if you want to get up early, the moment you wake up, you jump up and count "5, 4, 3, 2, 1".
By practising this 5-second rule, you won't be waking up and hitting the snooze button any more.

So why does the "5-second rule" have the power to change lives?

This is because taking action creates "A motivation".

Action

Motivation

This is due to "The consistency principle" which causes humans to have attitudes that are consistent with their actions.

What is  "The consistency principle"?

Benjamin Franklin, a global psychologist, described this phenomenon as follows.

We don't sing because it's fun.
It's fun because we sing.

The following is an easy-to-understand summary.
Fun (Attitude)
    ↓
Sing (Act)
    ↓
Fun (Attitude)

In this way, people come to have attitudes that are consistent with their action.

Whenever the human brain does something new, it subconsciously tries to put the brakes on the action.

This is due to the homeostatic function, and we instinctively judge something new to be dangerous, don't we?

In other words, we choose to maintain the status quo.

Why reading can't become a habit
For example, let's say you want to make reading a habit.

Then, the brain subconsciously begins to look for excuses for not acting.

I worked harder than usual at work today, so maybe I don't have to read...
I read too much yesterday, so I don't need to read it today...

So a lot of people can't make reading a habit, can they?

So, to sum it up, it looks like this.

The brain reacts (homeostasis)

The mind makes excuses

No action.

Of course, the same goes for "blogging, workout, getting up early" and so on.

As mentioned earlier, our brains try to put the brakes on anything new.

So, how can you escape from these brakes?

That's how the "5-second rule" works.

This is because the "5-second rule" allows you to act before the brakes are put on your brain.

Acting on a five-count before your brain makes an excuse will help you to be more motivated.

Wrapping up today's topic

It's as simple as counting 5 seconds and taking action, but just by doing this, your life will change 180 degrees.

I hope you'll incorporate the "5-second rule" into your life.
