In the summer, on the first day of April, the Emperor wanted to host the people from Wu (呉). He asked his ministers, "Who would be a good companion for the feast?" All the ministers replied, "Neno-omi (根使主) would be suitable." So, the Emperor appointed Neno-omi as the companion for the feast and held the banquet at Isonokami (石上) in Takabatara (高抜原).

During the banquet, the Emperor secretly sent an attendant to observe the attire of the guests. The attendant reported back, "The jeweled headband worn by Neno-omi is exceptionally beautiful. People are saying that he also wore it when he welcomed the envoy earlier." The Emperor wanted to see for himself, so he ordered Neno-omi to be brought before him in the same attire as at the banquet.

The Empress looked up at the sky, sighed deeply, and began to cry. The Emperor, puzzled, asked, "Why are you crying?" 宴会の最中、天皇はこっそりと舎人を送り、客人の服装を観させました。舎人が戻ってきて報告しました。「根使主のつけられた玉の髪飾りが、際立って美しく、皆が言うのに、『先に使者を迎えた時にもつけていた』ということです」と言った。
