皇后はそれをお聞きになって悲しまれ、心を込めて諫められた。「皇后は天皇に味方しないで、舍人(とねり)のことを大事に思う」と天皇は言われた。皇后は答えた。「国人は皆、陛下は狩りをして、猪を好むと言うでしよう。これは良くないでしょう。今、陛下が猪のことで舎人を斬ったのなら、それは陛下は狼に他なりません」。天皇はそこで皇后と車駕に乗ってお帰りになった。「万歳(よろずよ)」と叫んで言われるのに「楽しいことだなあ。人は皆、鳥や獸を獲物とするのだが、私は狩りをして、良い言葉を獲物として帰るのだから」と言われた。
