≪英訳≫

The next day, the Emperor sent a servant named Toriyama to bring back the Empress.

At that time, a poem was sung:

"Quickly catch up, Toriyama, in the land of Yamashiro. Quickly, quickly catch up. Can I meet my beloved wife?"

The Empress did not return and continued on her way. When she reached the Yamashiro River (Kizu River), she sang:

"As I travel up the Yamashiro River, standing at the river's bend, the flourishing tree with its rich leaves stands nobly, much like our great lord."

Crossing over the mountains of Nara and looking back at her homeland of Kazuraki, she composed another poem:

"As I travel up the Yamashiro River, passing Nara and Yamato, the land I long to see is near my home in Takamiya, Kazuraki."

Once more back to Yamashiro, she had a palace built to the south of Tsutsuki Hill in Tetsuki Village.

次の日、天皇は舎人（とねり）である鳥山（とりやま）を遣わして、皇后を連れ戻すように命じられました。

「山背（やましろ）に速く追いつけ、鳥山よ。速く、速く追いつけ。私の愛しい妻に追いついて、会うことができるだろうか？」

皇后は戻らず、さらに進まれました。山城川（やましろがわ、木津川）に到着されたときに、歌われました

「山城川を遡って行くと、川の曲り角に立っている、葉が茂った立派な木が、我が大君に似ています」

奈良山を越え、故郷の葛城（かずらき）を見ながら、彼女はさらに歌われました

「山城川を遡ると、奈良を過ぎ、大和（やまと）を過ぎ、見たいと思う国は、葛城の高宮（たかみや）、私の家の近くです」

改めて山城に帰って、宮室(おおみや)を筒城岡(つつきのおか 綴喜郷）の南に造ってお住みになった。
