Kevin: Welcome back to another episode of Kevin’s English Room Podcaaaaaast.
Yama: Why did you do that?
Kevin: So dirty. Selfie, selfie, right? all over the place.
Yama: Okay.
Kevin: Dirty throat, dirty voice.
Yama: Yeah.
Kevin: Nobody wants to hear that, right?
Yama: Nobody.
Kevin: Nobody wants to hear that. I think we just lost several listeners.
Yama: We only have audio format. So just, just dirty.
Kevin: Dirty audio all over the place.
Yama: Yeah.
Kevin: Um, I was just talking to you.
Yama: Okay.
Kevin: Off record about, off camera about.
Yama: Off camera, we don't have any camera.
Kevin: We don't have any cameras, off audio, off mic. I was just talking to you off mic.
Yama: Yeah.
Kevin: About being served, I was, I have this friend who's really like loves coffee.
Yama: Yep.
Kevin: And I went to his place and he was like Oh, yeah. Hey, Kevin. I have this. This is a very special bean. This is very special coffee that's, that's that was roasted by this very special like professional whatever that fuck you call that, right? and then,
Yama: Barista.
Kevin: Okay, yeah, barista yeah, I have a, I'm not disrespecting barista by the way, right? I like love coffee culture. I have to say that you know, and um, I uh, any certainly the special coffee, right? the special coffee.
Yama: The special one.
Kevin: The “special one” and it was so bad. It was like it was so sour! It was so sour!
Yama: Yeah.
Kevin: What the fuck is it's not even coffee, just sour liquid.
Yama: Yeah.
Kevin: It's just a liquid that's really sourly.
Yama: Yeah.
Kevin: Like it's like a normal coffee, like you take, you take like a small like a 小さじ of coffee. And then you put it in and you get a glass, glass cup of water, right? Just put it you put like a 小さじ of coffee and then you're mixing that's what I drink.
Yama: Basically, water then.
Kevin: That’s a water yeah, it was like dirty water. God, I am, I'm gonna get in trouble. I'm gonna get in trouble for that.
Yama: Yeah, I hope that friend is not listening to this episode.
Kevin: And I hope I don't offend any like special barista here. It's just my, my taste buds are bad. But um, yeah, so like I do not understand that.
Yama: Okay, okay.
Kevin: And then, and then you have a similar experience as well.
Yama: Yes, yes, like there’s some coffee professionals, barista professional, roastery people sometimes as I love coffee, so serve me. “Alright, let's try this. This is a special one.” Always too sour to me.
Kevin: Right, right.
Yama: Always.
Kevin: It's not to your liking?
Yama: No.
Kevin: So my question is, I can feel like there's a lot of people who has a similar experience for example, like you go to like a, like a very fancy sushi place. Or like a very, very fancy like French restaurant, right? And then, like the overall experience you get like every I understand that like the atmosphere is good, you know.
Yama: Yeah, yeah.
Kevin: It's romantic.
Yama: Yeah.
Kevin: It's fancy.
Yama: Yeah.
Kevin: Right?
Yama: Decorated.
Kevin: It's yeah, the candles are pretty, the view is pretty, the night view and everything. But if you compare that with like the everyday origin bento, right?
Yama: サイゼリヤ
Kevin: サイゼリヤ whatever or like, 家系ラーメン my favorite or like, whatever.
Yama: Yeah.
Kevin:レトルト pasta that I like to eat.
Yama: Yeah.
Kevin: We compare it with the you know, the very, very fanc- I don't know, who win just, just by looking at the taste you know, I, I or the 満足度 of the food itself. I, I don't understand the high-end life.
Yama: Okay.
Kevin: Of gourmet and um, and I think I have a lot of people who would resonate with that. What you think man?
Yama: Yeah, I kind of understand that I kind of understand that. But half of me is actually stepping into that kind of world actually because I'm starting to a little bit understanding about coffee. I'm not, I'm not talking about those French all those other things, but especially about the top coffee.
Kevin: Okay.
Yama: You know that special barista friend serve me like special coffee like actually he serve me like three types. The same beans but little different water temperature,
Kevin: Okay.
Yama: The little amount that must be like so high-quality thing. And, and we tried to compare those three you know, high express, ex-, expensive beans, and then we kind of reached some point that we cannot ex-, experience from those coffee that we can buy from convenience store or those you know, the daily coffee, so I kind of understand that there must be some you know, things that only those high-end coffee or gourmet can be reach you know, those area those little difference, those experience. But if you, if you want to experience that experience, you have to be trained, you have to be well, well known about those world. You have to be told, you have to be trained. So now I've been drinking coffee for like years, and now I'm kind of start to understanding that level the world.
Kevin: Okay.
Yama: Yeah.
Kevin: I have a question.
Yama: Okay.
Kevin: Why is it that once you acquire the knowledge of okay, in order for this taste to happen I can, I can, I can, um, it probably went through this and this and this and that's high quality, right? in order for the copy to have this bitterness. The beans has to be a roasted and an, a humidity and a timing that not a lot of people can do, right? Once you acquire that knowledge, right? You start tasting them in the coffee, right? Oh, this coffee has that speci-, specialities, speci-, specialty, specialness?
Yama: Frenchy accent of it?
Kevin: Yeah, yes, I'm becoming French little. I, nor- the coffee has I can, you, you start noticing, right? Because you're educated.
Yama: Yeah.
Kevin: Because you're educated on the flavor like Oh, this, this bitterness is a very special type of bitterness. Why is it that once you acquire that knowledge, you start you think that that's the good flavor?
Yama: Okay.
Kevin: Like why not? The canned coffees?
Yama: Ah, yeah.
Kevin: Like, why is it all of a sudden that the canned coffee is a bad flavor, right? It is still good. Still get some satisfaction out of that you still think they're tasty, right? Why? Why is it that when you acquire that knowledge, the old version of what you'd like becomes just demonized?
Yama: Yeah.
Kevin: Just a bad flavor shit.
Yama: Well, that is very like great topic that me and you talk about actually.
Kevin: Okay, okay.
Yama: Very like huge, the biggest difference between me and you and that makes you, you and me.
Kevin: Okay.
Yama: But anyways, it's a different little different story. It's more like fundamental thing but um,
Kevin: A cat?
Yama: A cat, yeah.
Kevin: I hear cats.
Yama: Yeah, cats are there. I, okay, I don't think cans coffee are like treated as bad coffee. Because for me that's can coffee are can coffee that's okay, that's convenient. We can purchase like,
Kevin: Anywhere.
Yama: And,
Kevin: Yeah?
Yama: Enjoy it.
Kevin; Yeah.
Yama: Okay, that's good. And other side like expensive coffee that's good if you want to pay that you can experience different world and that enjoyable to me or like those people. And that's okay. So I don't think that there isn't like, this is the good one, this is the bad one. But do you think so?
Kevin: I think well,
Yama: I mean they're all like some expensive like grande maison restaurant. Well, that's okay, that's good. I not sure but if some people say that’s good then okay, that's good for you. And for me like サイゼリヤ are enough. Then okay, that's good. So, I mean, they are expensive and looks like little well, fancy? little more fancier than サイゼリヤ but I guess there's no like サイゼリヤ isn't bad. But do you feel that those order little bit?
Kevin: Um, I feel like some people has that kind of take on the, the non-higher quality ones. The economy level food is thought of as disgusting.
Yama: Really.
Kevin: So your take,
Yama: Yeah,
Kevin: Is that it's the experience.
Yama: Yes.
Kevin: Sometimes wanna experience the economy class, sometimes wanna experience the first class. It's the experience that matter.
Yama: Yeah, it's, it's not like um, I mean it's difficult to explain but quality must be high in those high-quality restaurants, but like overall compared to the all pricing and all overall take everything in it. It's not better or you know, worse, worst?
Kevin: worse?
Yama: Yeah. But there's a different quality difference are there I guess and experience like food experience itself is different, yeah.
Kevin: Okay. Got it, right, right, right, right, right, yeah.
Yama: Yeah, like um, maybe get longer, huh?
Kevin: Yeah.
Yama: Okay, let's, let's continue.
Kevin: Okay. All right. Let's see us on next.
Yama: Yeah.
Kevin: Thanks for listening guys.
