Introducing Tiny Drive

Hello. My name is ROBA from Portalgraph, Inc. In this article, I would like to introduce "Tiny Drive", a pseudo-hologram driving game created using Portalgraph.

However, no explanation may be necessary if you watch the video.

We developed Portalgraph, a technology that uses a 3D projector to project trick art-like images from the player's point of view, creating the illusion of a VR space on the screen.

Tiny Drive projects this Portalgraph onto a desk instead of a screen hanging on the wall, and the game is played as if a small car is driving across the desk. Tiny Drive is a tribute to Kansai Seiki's 1959 "mini-drive.

Based on my research of the internal structure of the mini-drive and my memories of playing with it as a child, I tried to recreate the feeling of the mini-drive controls as much as possible. Also, since the mini-drive was quite old-fashioned nowadays, we changed the content of the mini-drive to collect candy while avoiding rocks, and if you take a star along the way, you become invincible and can blow away rocks (although it still feels very 80's).
We thought it would be fun to create a game using Portalgraph, which provides an experience as if the real thing were there, and we thought it would be interesting to use the motif of an elemechanical arcade game that game objects actually exist. I thought it would be fun to revive a work that is over 60 years old with the latest technology from the year 2023.

I hope you will play it if you see it somewhere.
