Hiromi Ito@Cologne

As the young up-and-coming feminist poet that she then was, I got to know her in my student days in the late ‘80s in Japan. After relocating to Germany, I had the opportunity to attend her poetry reading session in Düsseldorf – if I remember correctly - almost 30 years ago (!).

Since then, the author has come a long way, what with child raising, several marriages, migration and the heavy burden of nursing aging parents and husband all of which melted into the highly acclaimed work of "THE THORN-PULLER: NEW TALES OF THE SUGAMO JIZO" (its German translation now published: "Dornauszieher. Der fabelhafte Jizo von Sugamo").

I am excited about the coming re-encounter with her who will be reading the said book in Cologne (Japanisches Kulturinstitut) on 24 September.
Similar events will be also held in in Berlin (on 17-09 and 21-09) and Hamburg (on 18-09).
